A few days ago Sony studio made an announcement that a standalone Venom movie has been green-lit, it’s in the pre-production stage at present. The character of Venom has featured in the past Spiderman trilogy directed by Sam Raimi, but it seemed rushed and shoddy. Sam Raimi confessed the fact that he never wanted Venom in the last installment but studio meddled and forced him to include him, as a result it turned out to be a disaster.
Since then there has been a lot of chatter about a possible spin-off movie at Sony, but it went nowhere as he did’nt appear in the Amazing Spiderman franchise too. Unfortunately around the same time Sony e-mail scandal surfaced which revealed how big a travesty was Sinister six possible spin-off which was also planned.
But after this crisis came an opportunity, when Sony and Marvel studios decided to collaborate and bring Spiderman into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He is all set to guest-star in Captain America: Civil War and a brand new Spiderman franchise is in the works, Tom Holland has been cast as new Spiderman. But not all is hunky dory as the guy who is at the helm of Sony is the same guy who botched four comic-book movies at Fox studio and Marvel will not be actively involved in the production of Spiderman movies.
So are we going to see two different versions of Spiderman, one in Marvel cinematic universe and another in Spiderman/Venom movies much like Quick Silver where two different actors play the same character in two different universes. Guess…time will tell…
