Fight Night 83- “What’s Up Mario?”

Last night in Pittsburgh, Pa. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone defeated Alex Oliviera due to a triangle choke. Referee Mario Yamasaki was later criticized by Dana White for failing to stop the fight after Oliviera tapped three times, but he waited till 10 taps and Cerronne had to point at his hand. Take a look and see what you think.

Yamasaki is one of the more veteran officials on the big-show circuit, but Sunday wasn’t exactly his night. His apparent indecisiveness also came to a strange ending in a 142-pound catchweight fight between Cody Garbrandt (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Augusto Mendes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who ultimately suffered a first-round TKO loss.

I’m not saying anything about Yamasaki, except that he seemed to be a little off his game last night, something we can all  relate to. There is a reason why no one has been killed in the octagon as opposed to the boxing ring…fights get stopped quickly. A fighter can be seriously injured in a matter of seconds, so the ref has to be on the ball. Luckily, these guys are ok.

Fight Night 84 is Silva vs Bisping on Feb 27…I for one am looking forward to it!
