Spider-Man 3: Is Doc Ock Using Stark Tech On His Tentacles?

Spider-Man is coming back, or should I say Spider-Men are returning. And with them, their respective villains are returning as well. Thanks to a botched spell by Doctor Stephen Strange, the multiverse is live. And the rogue spell will open the gates of the multiverse to all sorts of threats, lurking all around the multiverse. With villains like Doc Ock and others coming in, people have several questions. Looking at a new image, one of those questions is – Is Doc Ock using Stark Tech on his tentacles?

The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer gave us a glimpse of what the multiverse holds for our beloved superheroes. Spider-Man already had a lot on his plate, with his identity revealed but it was just the beginning of his problems. Alfred Molina’s infamous Doctor Octavius is back with his sinister friends to say hello to Peter. This has led to the possibility of a Spider-Men team-up against Doc Ock and his friends.

The trailer featured hints towards the return of these villains, including Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard. Doc Ock’s appearance was a little more clear with Molina appearing with his signature metallic appendages. With the new pictures from the December edition of the Empire magazine, it is safe to say that Doc Ock is back to destroy Peter. However, an eagle-eyed fan noticed a rather conspicuous detail in Doc Ock’s tentacles from the trailer and the latest pictures. And we think we know the reason for this change.

DOC OCK AND HIS CHANGING COLOURS

Is Doc Ock Using Stark Tech

The trailer featured Doc Ock’s metallic grey tentacles, as seen in 2004’s Spider-Man 2. However, the new pictures reveal a little hot red color in the classic grey color. And the answer to this change might be in another picture in the magazine.

In a picture, we can see Doc Ock strangling Peter in a death-hold. Peter is donning his Iron-Spider suit, made for him by Iron Man himself. We already know that Peter will be creating a new suit for this movie and we have an interesting theory as to what will happen to Stark’s suit.

Is Doc Ock Using Stark Tech

The new theory suggests that Doc Ock will successfully destroy the Iron-Spider suit. Peter might be seen ejecting from the suit (like Rhodey did in Iron Man 3 when the suit got too hot!), leaving the suit behind. And Doc Ock being an evil genius, will use the suit’s advanced tech to improve his appendages. Since we have no official word from Marvel Studios, it is safe to assume that Doc Ock will still be seen in his 2004 technology. And if he wants to defeat the new and improved Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, he needs the new-age tech, just like him.

WILL OTHER VILLAINS GET AN UPGRADE TOO?

After Doc Ock’s suit, it makes sense if the other villains get advanced tech, too. The new Spider-Man movie brings a new concept to MCU by bringing non-canon characters into the mix. These villains belong to different times and different universes and bringing them into a single universe at the same time can be very challenging. The writers need to make the characters land perfectly in the plot, minimizing plot holes while connecting them to the larger universe.

These characters need to evolve to make their presence wanted and this new tech might help them do so. In the comics, Doc Ock served as the leader of the Sinister Six. And if he is getting an upgrade, he might replicate it for his team members too. Moreover, Tony Stark has been a strong influence in the life of MCU’s Spider-Man. So, his connection with the characters can be turned into something a lot more exciting. This might lead Peter Parker to focus more on his own inventions, rather than exploiting Stark tech, like he was supposed to in the comics.

If this theory holds, Doc Ock and the Sinister Six will be a hundred times stronger. And Tom Holland just being a teenager, he might call upon the Spider-Men from the villains’ own universes. This might be a problem for Peter Parker but it will be the best thing for the audience.

For more information, Spider-Man will swing in our neighborhood this Christmas season on December 17, 2021.
