Scream 6 Sets Box Office Records For The Franchise

Scream 6 has made Ghostface scream with joy as it crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, making it the first movie in the franchise to do so since 1997’s Scream 2. It looks like the sixth installment is on track to soon surpass the domestic take of the first Scream movie, which was $103 million. Adjusted for inflation, 1996’s Scream still holds the record, but the sixth movie is set to become the highest-grossing entry of the franchise in the US.

The movie’s success started on its opening weekend when it made a Scream franchise-best start of $44.5 million. It didn’t take long before the sixth installment overtook the $81.6 million domestic take of its predecessor and even beat Scream 2’s global haul. Scream VI has a gross of $56.25 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $156 million, which is way ahead of the $137.7 million earned by 2022’s Scream.

In terms of global box office stats, 1996’s Scream continues to lead with $173 million worldwide while Scream 2 is close behind with $172 million. Scream 6 currently ranks fourth in global ticket sales but is closing in on Scream 3′s worldwide crown. Scream 4 is in last place with a domestic take of $38.1 million and a worldwide haul of $97.2 million. Made for just $35 million, Scream 6 received high reviews, making it one of the best movies in the franchise, with a fresh rating of 77 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience response on the site was also strong at 91 percent.

On CinemaScore, which polls opening day moviegoers, the film earned a B+, the same score earned by Scream 2 and Scream (2022). The sixth installment of the horror franchise takes the terror from Woodsboro and into the heart of New York City, where Ghostface has set up a new set of rules for returning survivors and new victims. The movie follows the survivors of the Ghostface killings from the previous films, including sisters Samantha and Tara, and twins Chad and Mindy, who are trying to start a new life in New York City.

But, they are soon haunted by a new streak of murders that make it clear a new Ghostface killer has arrived to bring more dread to The Big Apple. The movie stars franchise regulars Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere, as well as new actors Jack Champion, Dermot Mulroney, Josh Segarra, Liana Liberato, Tony Revolori, and Samara Weaving.

Scream 6 is currently playing in theaters across the US, slashing its way to box office success.
