How to Train Your Dragon Live-Action Remake Confirmed by Universal Pictures (Details Inside)

Get ready for a blast from the past because the How to Train Your Dragon live-action remake is coming! Universal Pictures recently confirmed the news and fans of the beloved franchise are absolutely buzzing with excitement. And why wouldn’t they be? The original animated trilogy garnered a massive following, making over $1.5 billion at the box office, and earning an insane 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s some serious success right there!

So what do we know about this upcoming adaptation? Well, it looks like they’ll be sticking to the original story, rather than continuing the series. But here’s the really exciting part: Dean DeBlois, the mastermind behind the animated trilogy, will be returning to direct, write, and produce the live-action movie! This is a huge deal because DeBlois has worked on tons of critically acclaimed animated movies like Lilo and Stitch and the Dragon trilogy. But this will be his first time directing a live-action film.

Although casting for the film, which is currently set for release on March 14, 2025, is unknown, there are rumors that it is already in production. It won’t be long before we learn more about this intriguing project because Universal is reportedly planning to begin filming this summer. We are all aware that switching from animation to live-action can be risky. Take a look at Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King from Disney. However, with DeBlois on board, we have a good feeling that this movie will be made well. After all, How to Train Your Dragon is his first film.

He has been involved with the franchise since its infancy as a single animated film and has witnessed its development into a sizable multimedia enterprise. In light of this, it is unquestionably wonderful to see him given the opportunity to introduce Hiccup and Toothless to a larger audience. We’ll just have to wait and see about the casting and the characters. It’s anyone’s guess at this point whether they’ll stick to the original depictions or change things.

We do, however, have to wonder if they’ll choose a more diverse cast, as many live-action adaptations have done recently. Just have to wait and see, I guess. In general, we’re really interested to see what the live-action How to Train Your Dragon adaptation will add to the table. Fans find it to be a fascinating possibility, and we will undoubtedly watch for any updates!
