Shazam 2 New Footage Reveals Huge DC Cameo

The upcoming DC film, Shazam! Fury of the Gods has been making waves in the news lately, with rumors and speculation surrounding the possible appearance of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. However, Shazam 2 new footage has officially confirmed the appearance of the Amazonian hero, in what can only be described as a major spoiler. The TV spot features quick shots of many of the film’s most important characters, including Zachary Levi’s Shazam and the Shazam Family.

However, the most noteworthy moment comes when Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is shown clearly and purposefully, decked out in her signature regalia. The hero looks to Billy Batson, the young hero who transforms into Shazam, and motions for him to call her. She then delivers the line, “stick to saving the world, kid,” which is a callback to the crush that Billy has on Justice Leaguer. While this cameo from Gadot is certainly exciting for fans, it also raises some interesting questions about the film’s plot and Billy’s character. Wonder Woman explicitly refers to Billy as a “kid,” despite the fact that he is powered up and in his adult form when she says it.

This implies that she knows that Shazam is actually a child, which is something that Billy spent much of the first film trying to keep a secret. It will be interesting to see how Wonder Woman reacts to seeing a child on the front lines of battle, especially given the known fate of Robin in the Snyderverse and the lack of any notable child heroes or kid sidekicks outside of the Shazam Family. Of course, the appearance of Wonder Woman in the film is also significant in the larger context of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While the DCEU as we have known it for the past few years is coming to an end, with James Gunn and Peter Safran’s soft reboot kicking off later this year, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be one of the last chances for fans to see their favorite versions of these characters on the big screen.

For those who have been following the Snyderverse closely, Gadot’s cameo may be a chance to say goodbye to the franchise in a meaningful way. It’s worth noting that the appearance of Taylor Cahill as a “fake Wonder Woman” in the film had been previously announced, though it was unclear whether this would be in addition to or instead of Gadot. With this latest TV spot, it seems that Gadot’s appearance will be a significant part of the film’s plot, rather than just a fun Easter egg for fans. In addition to Gadot’s appearance, the TV spot also gave fans a glimpse of many of the film’s other characters, including Lucy Liu’s villainous Kalypso and Helen Mirren’s Hespera. While it remains to be seen how these characters will fit into the film’s plot, the inclusion of such high-profile actors suggests that they will be significant players in the story.

With less than a month to go until the film’s release, fans are eagerly anticipating the next installment in the Shazam franchise. The first film was a surprise hit for DC, with its lighthearted tone and focus on a family earning praise from both critics and audiences. The sequel promises to build on that success, with director David F. Sandberg returning to helm the project. It’s clear that the film will have some ties to the larger DCEU, with the appearance of Gadot’s Wonder Woman and the inclusion of other high-profile characters. However, it remains to be seen how much the film will tie into the events of other DC films, especially with the DCEU undergoing such significant changes in the coming years.
