Hey there, Marvel fans! Did you hear the news that Liv Tyler will return to the Captain America: New World Order movie to reprise her role as Betty Ross? Considering how much has changed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since we last saw her onscreen—more than ten years ago, can you believe it?—fans are incredibly interested in learning more about her part in the upcoming movie. Interestingly, will Betty Ross become red She-Hulk?
But this is where things really start to get interesting. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Betty has been a mainstay in the Hulk comics since the 1960s, but it wasn’t until 2009 that she underwent the transformation into Red She-Hulk. In the comics, Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, and his Intelligencia bring Betty back to life. Gamma radiation experiments on her result in the development of Hulk-like abilities and the brainwashing of confusion and resentment toward her former allies.
Betty experiences control issues as Red She-Hulk and even receives her own solo series. It appears that the movie is definitely referencing Hulk mythology now that it has been revealed that Tim Blake Nelson will also be reprising his role as The Leader in New World Order and that Harrison Ford has been cast as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will be the President of the United States. It’s also not a stretch to believe that the Intelligencia could be responsible for Betty’s transformation into Red She-Hulk given their portrayal as blood-sucking misogynists in the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series from a year ago.
There is more, though. Remember She-Hulk, who made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut on Disney last year? Well, there are already rumors that Tatiana Maslany could reprise her role in New World Order, and wouldn’t it be amazing if she faced off against Red She-Hulk? Betty is the ex-girlfriend of She-Hulk’s cousin and a potential superhuman ally, so it would make for an interesting dynamic. What do you think? We are, for sure, as it would be a comic-accurate continuation of a storyline that has been in the works for fifteen years and would undoubtedly raise the stakes of the film. Additionally, imagine all the fourth-wall-breaking we could get! Without knowing how you feel, we are eagerly anticipating the May 3, 2024 release of Captain America: New World Order. It will undoubtedly be a fantastic addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
