Disney+ X-Men Show: Marvel Studios Reportedly Plans Multiple Seasons

So, you know that X-Men ’97 animated series that’s coming to Disney+? Well, it looks like Marvel Studios has some big plans for this Disney+ X-Men show! Apparently, it’s going to run for four seasons, and the first season is set to debut later this year. For those who don’t know, X-Men ’97 is a follow-up to the original X-Men: The Animated Series from the ’90s. Fans have been skeptical about whether this new series will live up to the old one, but the creative team behind it has promised to “respect the work” of the original while also adding to its legacy.

We haven’t seen much from X-Men ’97 yet, but Marvel has said that the project is still on schedule. And now, insider KC Walsh has revealed that the series is being planned as a four-season effort. That’s right, folks: we’re going to get four whole seasons of X-Men goodness on Disney+! According to Walsh, the series should be coming out in the fall of 2023. That’s still a ways off, but it’s good to know that Marvel is staying on schedule. And if you’re a die-hard X-Men fan, you’ll be happy to hear that work has already begun on Season 2 of the series. Voice actor Cal Dodd recently revealed that he’s back in the studio working on the next season, which he called “just the beginning” of the X-Men ’97 journey.

Of course, four seasons is a lot of episodes. Assuming that the first season will have 10 episodes (which seems to be the norm for Disney+ shows), that means we’re going to get over 40 episodes of X-Men ’97 in total. That’s a big jump from the original series, which ran for five seasons and had 76 episodes. But don’t worry, fans: the creative team behind the series has promised that the series will honor the legacy of the original while also showcasing a very different world. So even though it’s a follow-up to the old series, it’s not going to be a complete rehash.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that Marvel is probably going to let this series run its course before introducing any of its own takes on the X-Men characters in the MCU. So if you were hoping to see Wolverine and the gang show up in the movies before X-Men ’97 is over, you might be out of luck. That’s not to say that we won’t see any mutants in the MCU before then, but they’ll probably be legacy characters or former Fox actors. So there you have it, folks: X-Men ’97 is going to be a big deal on Disney+. With four seasons planned, it looks like we’re going to get plenty of mutant action for years to come. The first season is set to debut later this year, so mark your calendars!
