Taron Egerton Reveals Whether He Has Been Cast as Wolverine in MCU

The X-Men will be in the MCU within 2-3 years. Marvel has already drawn first blood by turning Ms. Marvel into a mutant. And now they will continue with Deadpool and several other mutants like Wolverine. But who will play Wolverine in MCU? Has Marvel cast Taron Egerton for the part? A short while ago, Egerton revealed that he met with Marvel, and people jumped to the conclusion that it could be for the rageful clawed mutant. Well, the actor has set the story straight.

In an interview with Sway’s Universe, he talked about the Wolverine rumors and said:

“I made the mistake of saying that I had had a general meeting at Marvel around four years ago, which is true. But it got kind of spun and twisted into this thing… So I’m now at a point where… ’Cause look, I’ve always said… I don’t know if I’m the right guy to play that part. I was with Hugh [Jackman] yesterday, briefly, who obviously played the role originally. We’re such different vibes. I don’t know if I would be the right person to follow him. But I’ve always said I would be open to it. But at the moment, there’s no truth, other than the fan-casting thing, which goes kind of crazy every time I mention it. But, you know, who knows.”

So it’s clear that nothing is officially done between Egerton and Marvel. The Welsh actor elaborated upon this in an interview with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast. He said:

“So the reality is that… there’s been a lot of fan-casting for it. And I took a general meeting with [Marvel Studios President] Kevin [Feige] about four years ago where I said it would be… ‘I love the movies. I would love to do something.’ And he said, ‘It would be great if we could find something.’ I walked away and haven’t spoken to him since. I check my emails every five minutes. But there’s no… there was never– in fact, there was a character that I mentioned in that meeting, but it wasn’t that one. So that puts it into some perspective. So there’s no truth, no reality to it. But you know, I’d love to be a part– I’m a fan of those movies.”

Besides the Kingsman franchise, Egerton has proven his mettle by playing Eddie Edwards in Eddie the Eagle and Elton John in Rocketman. But we’re yet to see him expressing a lot of rage in a role. Whether he can do that successfully remains to be seen. But if he is playing coy about the casting and trying to pull off another Andrew Garfield move, then we would know for sure at D23 on September 10. That’s probably where he would be announced as Wolverine if Feige and co have already brought him in.

Wolverine could make his debut in the upcoming Deadpool threequel. Would you guys like Egerton as Wolverine in MCU? Or do you think someone else should play the part? Let us know in the comments.
