Star Wars just brought back one of its most beloved heroes, and die-hard fans are raving about the opening of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. Star Wars has been constantly surviving on retconning and nostalgia. And this series is no different. We’re getting more and more nostalgia as the show is building up to another duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. The former master and his padawan are going to hash their beef out at least once before Kenobi’s demise in A New Hope. But hardcore Kenobi fans would wanna know more about him in this new show. The two opening episodes didn’t give us a lot of new details about him personally. We’ve been shown what he was up to between The Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. But the character development has just been more of what we already know about him. Still, there’s one particular thing that people really want clarity upon: Did Obi-Wan Kenobi a virgin?
You’d be surprised to know that this is a question that many Star Wars fans ponder upon since Obi-Wan was among the greatest Jedi masters of all time. And one of the most popular rules in the Jedi Code is that a Jedi can have no love or personal relationships. In the eyes of the Council, there’s a lot that could go wrong. That’s why the Jedi are not allowed any contact with their families. They cannot get involved in any romantic relationships. And Anakin was never granted the title of a Jedi master because he broke both these rules. His fear of losing his mother cast a doubt in the minds of the Jedi council. And being personally attached to Padme was one of the elements that drove Anakin to the Dark side.
He became an easy target for Emperor Palpatine to manipulate. Ultimately, he screwed the pooch completely and became Darth Vader. This rule of no attachments exists because if the Jedi have these close personal connections with people, they won’t be able to control their emotions in certain situations. The fear of anything happening to people close to them could drive the Jedi to the Dark Side. Their judgments will be clouded. And in other situations, the desire to impress someone could lead a Jedi to misuse the Force for personal gain. So, all in all, Anakin Walker proved exactly why the rule of a life without love exists in the Jedi Code.
Because of this rule, Obi-Wan’s tragic love story never prospered. Those who haven’t seen The Clone Wars animated series would not know this, but Kenobi also held the torch for someone. He developed feelings for someone from the days he was a Padawan. Yes! Mr. Ben did fall for someone! It’s hugely fascinating since Obi-Wan is known as the Jedi Order’s golden boy. He was the face of the Jedi council in most cases. He embodied the highest ideals of the Order, and that’s why it feels pretty shocking to learn that Kenobi would have given up being a Jedi for Love.
Obi-Wan and Satine
In the second season of The Clone Wars, we were introduced to the formidable Duchess of Mandalore, Satine Kryze. She is the sister of Bo-Katan Kryze, whom we saw in The Mandalorian season 2 as well. Her character was modeled after Cate Blanchett. She was friends with Padme. Obi-Wan and Satine share a lot of adventures together. Because Satine’s life was under constant threat by Bounty Hunters, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Satine had to live on the run for a year in order to keep her safe. During these adventures, the two totally fell in love with each other, and they even confessed their feelings.
Satine told Obi-Wan that she had loved him ever since he came to her aid as Qui-Gon’s Padawan. And Obi-Wan told her that if she would have confessed her feelings earlier, then he would have left the life of a Jedi long ago. Their relationship was actually meant to mirror that of Anakin and Padme. So, it also ended in a tragedy as she died in Obi-Wan’s arms. But this is where Obi-Wan is different from Anakin. The demise of Satine did not drive him to the Dark Side. But but but… the important question to discuss is, did Obi-Wan and Satine actually do it???
Well, there’s no particular moment that specifically answered this. But it was heavily implied in Clone Wars that he and Satine were involved with each other during the Mandalorian Civil War. So, it is highly likely that he would have lost his virginity to Satine during their romance. Jedi aren’t explicitly celibate and sex isn’t forbidden in the Jedi Order. Attachment and possessive relationships are forbidden. So just when Kenobi was getting too attached, he decided to end their relationship. He died alone, but it is highly likely that he did not die a virgin!
