Here’s Why Mutants in Phase 4 are Perfect

Mutants have always been a big part of Marvel Comics but their absence from the MCU has always been a talking point. Many fans felt that the mutants should have been there since the beginning but we think otherwise. We think it’s good that Marvel hasn’t introduced them by now because they were waiting for the right moment. And we think that Phase 4 is all about that perfect moment. And we have two reasons to support our point of view as to why it’s a good thing that MCU hasn’t introduced the mutants in phase 4.

The mutants have been one of the most special groups of superheroes who were naturally born with their superpowers, something that the MCU has strayed away from. Then again, including them and their superhero team, X-Men was never going to be an easy task, considering the fact that 21st Century Fox has owned the movie rights to the characters. But was never out of the realm of possibility. Yes, the X-Men universe was going on but no one would say that it was leading somewhere. But still, Marvel maintained their distance from them, until now. Because we are finally getting to see mutants being incorporated into the MCU in Phase 4.

Marvel has tried to hint at their existence in the universe multiple times, but never went ahead with it seriously. For instance, an alternative post-credits scene from the first Iron Man movie was supposed to tease the mutants. But Marvel scrapped it because this was not the path they wanted to go through. And as it turns out, they had good reasons for it!

REASONS FOR NOT INCLUDING X-MEN INTO THE MCU SOONER?

Mutants in Phase 4

While there were many reasons for doing so, or, should we say not doing so, the main reason shines through them. The first one is, of course, the fact that MCU tried to keep things more in touch with reality. In their original line-up for the first phase, three of their superheroes were regular humans, two of them were chemically-induced superhumans and only a single one of them was a God. The Marvel comics have an arsenal full of super-powered characters but they still chose those 6. This was because of their grounded approach! And mutants would have never fit into this universe, even if they did feature them somehow.

WHY IS IT GOOD THAT MARVEL WAITED TILL NOW?

MCU is not how it was at the beginning, instead, it has changed and it has evolved. There have been a number of new characters who aren’t rounded as the initial line-up of the characters. But they are more fictional with inexplainable powers and origins. So, one could say that it is very ready to introduce the mutants whose existence is a fact now. Marvel has been experimenting with the mutants with the addition of Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver in 2014’s age of Ultron and needless to say, it turned out for the best!

The other reason why this is a perfect time is the concept of the multiverse. After Disney+’s Loki(2021), the multiverse is open for business. And after the last Doctor Strange movie, we know that mutants are real in the multiverse. In older times, explaining the addition of mutants at a sudden time would’ve been impossible to pull off. But now, anything can happen. Literally anything!

AND WHY DO WE NEED X-MEN NOW MORE THAN EVER?!

X-Men has been one of the strongest superhero teams to ever exist in the comics. Not to mention, the most iconic. So, it was always a matter of time until we got to see them in the MCU. But now is the time that we need them the most, especially now with the Avengers gone. We say this because it is common knowledge that the Avengers’ return seems unlikely in the current phase. So, this phase needs a superhero team-up movie, and what better for it than that highly-anticipated X-Men. However, if this was Phase 1, saying this would have been almost impossible, considering MCU was still in its newborn stages. But now that MCU is expanding at a are like never before, X-Men should be finally ready to surface the MCU.
