A Major Hawkeye Character Almost Became Moon Knight’s Love Interest In MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen its shares of ups and downs. Mostly because of things like the introduction of the multiverse and the advent of new factions, such as The Celestials things have been brought to a tipping point. Add to this the fact that Moon Knight opened the way for the Egyptian Gods and we have a possible clusterfuck on our hands. To mitigate this process, it is advisable that Marvel handle their characters well and in the place, they can best utilize. In fact, the show’s producer just revealed that another one of Moon Knight’s love interest was scrapped from the show because for similar reasons.

As I said, Marvel has introduced a number of characters over the past couple of years. New characters and new factions are what have been causing an uproar in the MCU. To this end, we feel that Marvel has made the right choice of using their characters inappropriate places right now. But since the source material is so wide and there are thousands of super-powered characters to choose from, it will come as no surprise to anyone that the cast on any show is perfected over time and is not static from the outset. Let me clarify, there was a character who was originally supposed to be the leading lady of Moon Knight but she was shifted to another show.

Moon Knight’s Love Interest In MCU

You heard me right. She was shifted to another show. Not only that, this character that I am talking about was supposed to be Echo aka the adoptive daughter of Kingpin. In Ringerverse’s House of M podcast, Moon Knight head writer/executive producer Jeremy Slater had this to say,

“At the time, Echo was going to be our love interest, solely based on the fact that they knew Marvel liked the character of Echo and was trying to find a show to put her in…… They were like, ‘You know what, we’ve got this Hawkeye show and we feel like she would fit in a lot better there’… Bushman was initially going to be the main villain. I thought he was going to be possessed by an Egyptian god by the end of it, and you’d have a big sort of avatar battle.”

Hence, Echo was supposed to be the person who planned to be standing beside Steven/Marc in Moon Knight but the executives thought it better to use her in another show. We cannot even blame them for it. Echo is a very interesting character and putting her to use in Hawkeyea place where she has a direct connection to the main villain, instead of Moon Knight was a better choice. Moreover, we think that Layla’s character does a wonderful job of humanizing Marc.

Without her, we would have never seen the caring side of Marc. Until she appeared in the show Marc was like a wild animal akin to Khonshu’s attack dog. It was reassuring to find a character who knew this heartless beast before he became a beast. If Echo were to fulfill this role then are unsure whether the same kind of genuine emotion would have come across in the scene.

The Possibilities

Moreover, she is much better used to shooting KingPin in the head. The producer’s quote also revealed that Moon Knight’s main villain was originally supposed to be Bushman. Moon Knight episode 5 revealed that Bushman was Marc’s old CO from his mercenary days. We think that that is very interesting. Maybe Bushman would have been the one who would have taken over as Ammit’s Avatar in the finale of the show. If the finale were supposed to be a big Avatar battle then Bushman would have to have been a God’s Avatar.

Whatever the case might be, Moon Knight has only one more episode to tie up all of the loose ends that it has left after the end of episode 5. We hope that it can do it and that the fans enjoy the finale of the show.
