Why Mr. Negative Would Be The Best Villain for Spider-Man 4

The last Marvel Cinematic Universe entry in the Spider-Man movies gave us Spider-Man: No Way Home. This movie marked the end of the Home trilogy of movies with each project helmed by director Jon Watts. The movie had an ending that clearly indicated that anything is possible in terms of the narrative we will get to explore. Producer Amy Pascal announced that we will get to see another trilogy for Spider-Man’s arc. In the past few months, fans have gone through all the possible things that the movies might get to explore in Spider-Man’s arc. While a lot of villains could be selected for the prime antagonist, one of the villains actually makes a lot of sense. We think that Mr. Negative is possibly the best villain for Spider-Man 4.

No Way Home

The third entry to Tom Holland’s solo venture as Spider-Man in the MCU gave us some of the most awesome moments ever. This movie featured characters that play an essential role in the history of the live-action interpretation of Spider-Man. But the ending of the movie really left fans confused regarding the future of the character in the franchise. While the movie indicated a fresh starting for Spidey, it also managed to set up another character with a little bit of Venom getting left behind. But this is not the end for the character as we will get a whole new trilogy with a collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios.

Best Villain for Spider-Man 4

In an interview with The New York Times, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal had some interesting answers regarding the future of the character. Upon being asked about the future plans they stated:

FEIGE: “Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after “Far From Home” [the previous Spider-Man movie, in 2019]. That will not be occurring this time.”

PASCAL: “At the end of the movie we just made, you see Spider-Man make a momentous decision, one that you’ve never seen him make before. It’s a sacrifice. And that gives us a lot to work with for the next film.”

Mr. Negative Is The Ideal Choice For The Next Big Baddie

The MCU Spider-Man movies made sure that the project didn’t use any of the villains we had gotten to see before. This actually worked with an interesting set of villains like Vulture and Mysterio making their live-action debut. If Marvel continues with this plan then Mr. Negative could be the ideal choice for the next villain in the franchise. Spider-Man has an interesting collection of villains in his rogue’s gallery and they only help develop the arc of the character. Mr. Negative has recently had a rise in popularity with the Spider-Man game from Insomniac. This makes him an interesting candidate for the villain in the next project.

There were theories of a possible appearance from the character in No Way Home. This was because of the presence of the homeless shelter F.E.A.S.T., where May Parker was seen working since the events of Far From Home. According to the comics, this shelter is actually owned by Mr. Negative. Thus, it will become a lot easier to introduce the character in the movies with elements of his character already being present. Peter might have an interest in continuing to work with the shelter and that might see him reveal the truth behind the owner.

Best Villain for Spider-Man 4

Each of the Spider-Man films has given us a narrative that has been quite massive. But now that Spider-Man has grown and gathered some depth, he might require a lot more grounded villain. No Way Home managed to prove the effect that the past villains from the past Sony Spider-Man films had left. It would be interesting to see a villain who leaves a similar impact in the arc of Spider-Man here.
