The MCU May Already Have Its Batman Replacement Through This Daredevil Easter Egg
We are quite sure that there are various characters that are associated with DC heroes in Marvel. Over the years, there have been various debates regarding the originality of some of the characters we have seen in the comics. But one of the most influential characters has to be Batman since he has actually been associated with various Marvel heroes. Daredevil and Moon Knight are the obvious names associated with Batman but there is one other character who can be considered to be a Batman clone. It seems that an Easter egg from Daredevil might have made this Batman clone canon to the MCU long before other clones got in.
Batman-Esque Characters In The MCU
There is gonna be a clear presence of Batman characters in the franchise with the expansion of MCU. One of the most commonly associated characters, Moon Knight is going to make his debut later this year with a Disney+ series. But this might not be the very first time a character associated with Batman made his debut in the franchise. Since Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio made their appearance in the MCU, the Netflix Daredevil series has become canon to the MCU. That series actually had an Easter egg for a character who is considered to be an enemy of Hawkeye.
Daredevil Canon To The MCU
Over the years, it was being stated that Disney+ will only be featuring the shows that are canon to the MCU starting with WandaVision. This clearly meant that we won’t be getting a chance to see the Netflix Marvel shows being considered canon to the franchise. But things took a rather interesting turn when Daredevil’s Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio actually end up making their debut in the MCU. While Charlie Cox appeared as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Vincent D’Onofrio appeared as the Kingpin in Hawkeye. Not only that but there are reports of another season of this series already being under development.
The Easter Egg From Daredevil
There were a lot of references to Marvel’s character in the first season of Daredevil on Netflix. Amongst the names mentioned was Kyle Richmon aka Nighthawk. The reference was made when Owlsley was insisting upon “Richmond” being on the guestlist for Kingpin’s gala. This gala actually included the names of some of the most high-profile millionaires and important figures in New York City. Owlsley stated that Richmond won’t show up but he would still be mad if he didn’t end up getting an invitation. This was a clear indication of the Richmond persona associated with Nighthawk.
The character is known for having a civilian life where he used to attend such functions in New York on a regular basis. Not only that, but the character actually uses his financial resources in order to support his superhero lifestyle as Nighthawk. Fans might not know but this character was actually created to have a certain resemblance with Batman. Following the debut of the Squadron Sinister in the 1960s, each character was supposed to be a take on the Justice League. They would later end up battling the Avengers thus giving a reference to the long-time Marvel vs. DC debate.
Nighthawk would eventually be added onto the Defenders comics, thus developing his character further in the Marvel universe. While the character only appeared as an Easter egg in the Daredevil series, his arc in the comics has a lot to be explored in terms of storytelling potential. We can expect that with the expansion of the MCU this character might also end up making his debut on the small screen for the franchise. With Moon Knight also making his debut, it would be interesting to see both of them coming across each other in a future project from Marvel Studios.
