Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Horrifying Reboot of The Grudge

Every year we patiently wait for some really good horror thriller movies and almost every year there is at least one great horror movie that stands out and creates history, or at least manages to give the audiences what they really want, which is the ultimate thrill and fear! The previous year we got ‘Get Out’ and ‘It’, and the year before that we got ‘The Conjuring 2’. Hopefully, this year’s ‘The Nun’ turns out to be what people are expecting. And Next year, we are going to see the reboot of the hit franchise, The Grudge.

Sony is bringing us the reboot for the supernatural horror movie franchise, ‘The Grudge’. Sony has even revealed the main cast and the filming date for the upcoming horror flick. We have already witnessed a trilogy of The Grudge movies, and now, it certainly is the time to reboot and bring back the horror and drama possibly in a new and even more thrilling way.

The constant factor in the Insidious franchise, which is actor Lin Shaye who plays the role of ‘Elise’ in the Insidious movies will be expanding her horror movie credentials as she will be one of the lead stars in the upcoming horror reboot by Sony. The details to her explicit role are yet unknown, but looking at her stardom, we know that she is going to have a significant role for sure.

The first Grudge movie that we saw was a remake to a Japanese movie named Ju-On which came out in 2002, and told the story of a man who murders his family when he discovers that his wife has fallen in love with another man, but the spirits of the household are so powerful that they return from the grave to kill the man responsible for the horrific crimes. This gave birth to a curse which extended past this family as the spirits went on to kill anyone who inhabited the particular house.

The remake came out in 2004 and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a nurse who was menaced by a supernatural curse, and it made certain changes in the story which did not go well with the audiences who saw the original, but still, the movie made huge profits as it managed to earn a hefty $187 Million on a production budget of just $10 Million.

After the insane amounts of profits the movie made, it was a no-brainer that it was surely going to get a sequel. In this case, we got 2 sequels as one came out in 2006, while the threequel came out in 2009. Now 10 years later, we will get to see another remake of the hit horror franchise, and hopefully, Sony does a better job this time around.

They have hired Nicolas Pesce, who last directed the festival hit The Eyes of My Mother, to write and direct The Grudge, and along with Lin Shaye, John Cho, Demian Bichir, and Andrea Riseborough will be appearing in various lead roles of the movie.

Hopefully, this movie stands out as the best horror movie of 2019, even though it is going to have a huge competition in the name of the ‘It’ sequel which WB is bringing out in 2019 as well. Sony is investing quite a bit in making reboots these days, as in the beginning of this year we saw the reboot to Jumanji starring Dwayne Johnson, while the next year is also going to bring us the reboot of Men in Black starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Along with these, Sony has also planned 2 more sequels for Bad Boys, and one of those is supposedly coming out in 2019.

Sony is going to bring some huge projects in 2019, as we are also going to see a sequel to 2017’s mega blockbuster movie Spider-Man: Homecoming which went on to be the highest grossing comic book movie of 2017, and similar feats are expected of the sequel as well.

Hopefully, Sony does well with all these sequels and reboots, and give the audiences some good material to enjoy just like they did with this year’s Jumanji reboot. A release date for The Grudge reboot is not yet confirmed, but we will surely get to see the movie in 2019 as it is going to begin production this May.
