Is The Soul Stone Not Going To Appear Till Avengers 4?

Avengers: Infinity War is just 34 days away, and by this time, people have their brains exploding with questions and hype. The movie is going to surprise us in every way, and every day new theories keep hitting the internet that may be potential spoilers but turn out to be nothing but big grains of salt. One of the biggest surprises the movie has been hiding from the audiences is the Soul Stone.

People have had some crazy anticipations and theories suggesting the location of the Soul Stone, but till now, most of them have turned out to be false. Marvel has been hiding it from the fans for 10 years now. While all other Infinity Stones have got their moments and reveals in various movies, the Soul Stone still has been hiding somewhere far from the boundaries of our imagination.

People thought that Thor: Ragnarok will surely reveal the Soul Stone as either Heimdall or Hela would be the ones to possess the Soul Stone. The reason behind that was Heimdall can see the ‘Souls’ of every individual in this world and Hela is the Goddess of Death so she may have been taking away the souls of her victims. Also, the initials of their names also seemed to be fitting with the THANOS theory (T- Tesseract, H- Hela/Heimdall, A- Aether, N- Necklace, O- Orb, S- Sceptor), but that did not turn out to be true.

Fans then believed that Soul stone will most certainly be revealed in Black Panther solo movie as this is the last Marvel outing before we see the grand comic book event. It makes sense to hide such a powerful gem in the Kingdom of Wakanda under the protection of Black Panther but there was no mention of an Infinity stone neither in the movie nor in post-credits which would have set up Infinity War.

Well, it might turn up in Infinity War, but even that seems a far stretch now.

The second theory suggested that Wakanda is hiding the Soul Stone and that is why the people of the nation preferred to stay in hiding so that they could prevent the Gem, but it turned out that they were hiding the abundance of Vibranium to protect it from getting into the wrong hands. There still remains speculation that the stone could be there as we saw a literal ‘Soul World’ which was full of the souls of the Wakandan people (The Astral Plain), but that theory has also possibly been watered by the Director of the movie.

The most recent speculations suggested that the Soul Stone is owned by Tony Stark since it had happened twice that the marketing promo arts attached Tony Stark aka Iron Man with the Soul Stone and it will be revealed in Infinity War. Some people also suggested that the Soul Stone has something to do with Hawkeye, or he will be on a solo mission to retrieve the stone since he is being kept a big secret till now. But that is a far stretch.

But keeping all these speculations aside, there is a huge possibility that the Soul Stone may not even get revealed in Avengers: Infinity War as well. We know that the Seige of Wakanda will happen in order to protect Vision and the Mind Stone, and we saw that even during that battle, Thanos has only 2 Infinity Stones. It has been reported that the entire third act of the movie will take place in Wakanda, so that makes the Seige come in towards the end of the movie even though people believe that there is something that lies ahead of that as well.

But if the scene where Cap stops Thanos does come towards the Climax, and if Thanos truly does not have any other stones in his possession by then apart from the Space and Power Stone, then it is very plausible that Thanos does not assemble all the Infinity Stones by the end of Infinity War. Actually, getting all the Infinity Stones should not be as easy as it seems, because if Thanos is able to get all the stones like it’s no big deal, then there is no defense that can actually stop him from destroying half the Universe.

Infinity War should be a build-up to Thanos getting all the Infinity Stones, and Avengers 4 should be the one where Thanos ultimately assembles all the Gems onto his Gauntlet. This is probably why the name of the 4th Avengers movie is still a mystery. So anyone going into Avengers Infinity War should not hope to see Thanos complete the Infinity Gauntlet within this movie, because if he does, then there is no coming back from that and Thanos could not be defeated.

Infinity War will be more of a Thanos origin story and a heist movie, according to Russo brothers. Thanos will come for the Infinity stones along with the massive alien army to destroy anything and anyone who comes in the way of him and total dominance. Here is what Russos said:

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

Avengers: Infinity War will open worldwide on April 27, 2018, and Avengers 4 will come out on May 3, 2019. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo aka Russo brothers who are the best duo that could have been chosen for this big-budget outing. The movie is produced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige along with a team of executive producers including Louis D’Esposito, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, and Michael Grillo. The screenplay has been written by an amazing duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The cast is incredibly talented and enormous including some of the A-listers like Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter soldier), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Pratt (Starlord), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Reiner (Hawkeye), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Benedict Wong (Wong), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Tom Holland (Spiderman), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Josh Brolin (Thanos).

The plot synopsis as released by Marvel studios can be read below:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.
