Deadpool 3 Finally Finds Its Director And You’re Going To Love Him

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to land some of the biggest names in Marvel into their projects in the upcoming years. This has allowed for an increased hype for the future of the franchise. One of the biggest names set to make his MCU debut is none other than Deadpool himself. There was a lot of confusion regarding the status of the Daredevil franchise following the Fox Disney merger. But it was later announced that the arc of the character would be continued from the first two films with the third film taking place in the MCU. It seems that Marvel Studios is eyeing director Shawn Levy to helm Deadpool 3 which will be set in the MCU.

Deadpool

Deadpool was a project that was under discussion for quite a long time before it made it into the live-action interpretation. Ryan Reynolds would appear as the character of Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This depiction was so terrible that fans would not even consider it to be an essential Deadpool depiction. Later in 2016, we would finally get to see a solo movie that would be a major success with the fans. It would also gain a good amount of critical reception and thus a sequel would be announced. But the sequel would see the director of the original film dropping out as David Leitch replaced Tim Miller.

Deadpool In MCU

Following the Fox-Disney merger, some of the biggest Fox projects were put on hold. This included a third entry to the Deadpool movies and fans felt that the character won’t be seen anymore unless Marvel Studios decided to reboot it. But things took a different turn when Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, announced that we will see Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool appear in the MCU. This would be a continuation of his arc from the first two Deadpool films and thus the third film will take place in the MCU. Ever since then there have been certain updates regarding the project.

Shawn Levy Will Be Directing Deadpool 3

According to a report from THR, Marvel Studios is in negotiations with director Shawn Levy to helm Deadpool 3. This would actually be the third venture for collaboration between Reynolds and Levy. The duo has worked on some rather massive projects in the last few years. This includes the Disney and 20th Century Fox movie Free Guy that was riddled with MCU references. Their next big title is the recently released sci-fi Time Travel movie The Adam Project. Levy is known for directing some of the most massive sci-fi projects that have been appreciated by fans over the years.

It would be interesting to see what this director brings to the table for Deadpool 3. He has had a close relationship with Ryan Reynolds and their collaborations have actually been quite impressive to the audience. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who helmed the last two movies are working on the script for the upcoming film. Levy has never filmed an R-rated movie and Deadpool 3 is going to be the first such rated movie in the MCU. It is not yet known whether we will see some of the other characters return in the movie. But it would be interesting to see Levy bring his Easter eggs and jokes to the depiction of the character.

Now that the director and new writers are in place, this film should go under production by 2023 at the latest. That means we could expect it in 2024. Rest MCU’s upcoming roster includes Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Fantastic Four, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool 3, Captain America 4, Nova, Shang-Chi 2, and Blade.
