The Cast of Rebel Moon Revealed (Zack Snyder’s Next Netflix Movie)

Zack Snyder has finally found his home at the Netflix streaming platform. Following the horrible way, he was treated at Warner Bros. with his plans for DC Extended Universe. The director had to continue with his plans for Justice League on HBO Max and this ended up getting us Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Snyder has officially moved ahead with some interesting choices. We saw his last venture on HBO with the Zombie apocalypse heist film Army of The Dead. Now he is following up with the Star Wars-inspired project, Rebel Moon. And we finally know of the epic cast of Rebel Moon as it has added Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, and Doona Bae.

Snyder’s Next Film

With the expansion of the Star Wars universe, Rebel Moon was also pitched as a movie for the franchise. But soon the project didn’t go anywhere and it was then re-envisioned as a sci-fi tv series. That concept also didn’t work and finally, the project got re-envisioned again as a movie that will be a Netflix original helmed by Zack Snyder. He will be serving as both the director and co-writer and Sofia Boutella has been cast in the lead role. We will also see him reunite with his Sucker Punch star Jena Malone. The director has indicated his enthusiasm for the project by sharing a variety of concept art for the movie.

Rebel Moon will see a small colony on the edge of a galaxy. This colony is on the verge of being taken over by a tyrant named Belisarius and his armies. The people of this colony decide to send out young women from their colony to other planets to ask for help to save their galaxy. This might seem rather similar to the concept of Akira Kurosawa’s epic Seven Samurai. This narrative has been adapted numerous times in the past with projects like Magnificent Seven, Ocean’s Trilogy, etc. The writing team for the project will also include Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.

Cast of Rebel Moon

Snyder welcomed a lot of interesting names for the cast of the movie. The director made a tweet that showed some concept art of the movie and also revealed some exciting new names joining the project. He tweeted,

Honored to welcome this incredible cast to Rebel Moon. Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, and Ray Fisher join previously announced Sofia Boutella. Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, & Sky Yang round out the cast. More to come. Let’s go! #RebelMoon @Netflix

The director had talked about adding some familiar faces in the movie in an interview with ComicBook.com. He had said:

Always. I mean, I love my guys. I always call these guys. I like my acting family and I always, if they’re not busy or whatever, it’s always an honor to get to work with them again…Like Billy Crudup and all those guys. It’s always like, these are people. It’s just that I have been really fortunate and worked with such great people and consider so many of them my friends that, yeah, that’d be great.

Other interesting names attached to the project include Henry Cavill and Jared Leto. Both of them have worked with Snyder in the past in the roles of Superman and Joker in the DC Extended Universe. Cavill will reunite with her Justice League co-star Ray Fisher in the project. It is exciting to see these actors involved in the project as we have mostly seen them in action movies. Even Sofia Boutella has worked on some exciting projects that include Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond, and Atomic Blonde. We have seen her nail some serious stunts and action in these movies so we can be sure that Snyder would utilize that in these movies.

Snyder’s recently produced spin-off to Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves released last year and it will also see an anime series on Netflix titled Lost Vegas. Netflix has given us such massive projects before with Altered Carbon and Lost In Space so we can imagine Snyder’s next venture could be a success. Production for Rebel Moon will begin this year. This project hasn’t got a fixed release date yet but we can expect details to drop in as it is nearing the principal photography.
