All 4 Personalities of Moon Knight Explained

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken a completely different turn by introducing brutal and realistic characters. Up until now, even though the Marvel Superheroes have been brought closer to reality, there has been something missing. Marvel and Disney now seem to be pushing a social narrative with their content. With each new show, they try to highlight issues that are not talked about in the media. This is evidenced by the latest Moon Knight trailer which is supposed to delve into a disassociative personality disorder. Several personalities of Moon Knight are supposed to be featured in the Disney+ show.

We know this because of the updated synopsis of the show. Here, take a look:

“The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt” In light of this, we made a list explaining all of the different personalities of this character:-

Marc Specter

Marc Specter was the child of a Rabbi who somehow escaped the persecution by the Nazis during the Holocaust. This resulted in a very strange childhood for the boy. He developed a keen hatred for the oppressors in society and channeled it into boxing. The boy also had a fickle mental condition (Which was later explained as Marc trying to echo the multi-faceted nature of Khonshu). Later, Marc joined the army and trained as a Marine.

He ran a lot of missions and then was scored by the CIA, where he worked tirelessly as an intelligence agent. His skillset is varied and he is considered lethal in hand-to-hand combat. We see snippets of this in the trailer. However, one day he got caught up too deep and ended up at death’s door. Here Khonshu offered Specter a deal. The chance to live in exchange for Khonshu to possess him as Moon Knight.

Khonshu

Personalities of Moon Knight

Khonshu is a primordial being who resides in the Othervoid. This being once came in contact with the people of ancient Egypt, who thought that he was the moon spirit and started worshiping him as such. Since then, he is known as the moon God. The beings of Othervoid cannot interact with this realm but they can form psychic connections with creatures of this universe so that we may act as their vessels/avatars. Khonshu scouted Marc at a young age and deemed the boy fit for forming a psychic link with him, given his fickle mental state.

This culminated later when Marc was delivered to Khonshu’s altar in Egypt as a wounded Marine/ CIA agent on the verge of death. Khonshu offered Marc life in exchange for an Avatar contract and psychic link. Marc accepted and thus Moon Knight was born.

Steven Grant

Steven is one of the first personalities that a young Marc Specter discovers in the comics. After Marc had formed a psychic connection with Khonshu ( The Moon God) as a teenager, he imagines meeting a boy named Steven. But in reality, he himself acts as Steve and this becomes one of his personalities. Steven Grant is timider than Specter but both of these personalities form the base of the character. They are indistinguishable at times.

But Steven Grant’s personality was used by Marc Spector to put a face on his business in the comics. This enabled him to make millions and get the funds to purchase high-end equipment for his crime-fighting endeavors. Steven Grant is also somewhat of a playboy in the comics, however, we are unsure how the show will use this personality. Admittedly in the comics, this was the part of Moon Knight’s characters that resembled Bruce Wayne/Batman the most.

Jake Lockley

Personalities of Moon Knight

Jake Lockley is the personality of Marc Specter of whom we know precious little. He is a Taxi driver who prefers to stay in the streets to gain street-level knowledge about criminals. But in some versions of Moon Knight, this personality developed when marc was a teenager and it led to his parents having him institutionalized. It was from here, that, Marc escaped and joined the Marine corps.

Do you think we will see all of them in the show? This was our analysis of all the personalities of Moon Knight. Let us know in the comments down below and keep watching this space for everything Marvel, DC, and Hollywood. Excelsior!!!
