New Avatar 2 Details Reveal Why The Na’vi Had To Go Underwater

James Cameron is all set to return to the big screen as a director with the upcoming sequels to one of his most successful movies Avatar. The sci-fi epic has a lot of excitement surrounding it as the first movie actually held the title for the highest-grossing movie of all time for about a decade. There was a lot of development in the process of making the movie that has now become an essential means for other projects since then. There haven’t been any updates regarding the stories for the upcoming sequels but fans have been gathering details based on what we have seen so far. There might be a possible explanation why Avatar 2 might be taking the Na’vi underwater based on the new Avatar 2 details revealed by producer Jon Landau.

Avatar

Avatar was one of the biggest successes in terms of both the audience and the box office response the movie received. The movie told the narrative of Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, who is a disabled former Marine in the year 2154. He becomes a part of the team that goes to Pandora, which is a forested planet inhabited by the alien race Na’vi. After using a certain scientific development Sully takes on the body of a Na’vi individual and this allows him to go around the planet in a whole new manner. He joins a tribe and then realizes that the humans he was actually working with might be trying to invade the planet. They team up and battle against the invaders, succeeding in the end.

In an interview for the new issue of Total Film Magazine that was revealed by Games Radar, Jon Landau actually talked about some of the details regarding the Avatar sequels. He said the main story of the movie will focus on the Sully family and this will see Jake and Neytiri having their own brood in the sequel. But they face the wrath of the RDA mining operations who might actually be threatening the existence of the family. This is actually the reason behind the tribe going for “what is perceived as a safe harbor” at the reef.

Landau said:

And when you get to the reef, there’s a clan we call the Metkayina. The Sullys are no longer in the environment that they know, the rainforest. They become the fish out of water. They become the fish out of water both culturally and just environmentally.

Landau further said that:

The scripts are the blueprint from which we work. So a large portion of our time was writing… with the challenge that each of those four scripts had to individually resolve itself in a story that concludes with a big emotional resolution – but when you look at them as a whole, the connected story arc of all four movies creates an even larger epic saga.

Talking about what James Cameron brings to the franchise this time Landau said:

I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim [Cameron] always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre. And if you think about this, there’s really no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?
