Spider-Man is definitely one of the most beloved superheroes all across the world and fans are always happy when we get to see another Spider-Man project come out. A few weeks back we were told that there might be something we would get to see about the Into the Spider-Verse sequel set to come out next year. The animated Spider-Man movie was one of the most successful Spider-Man ventures and it took one of the most exciting narratives of the character and have a very exciting spin. A sequel was confirmed very soon after its release based on the success the movie achieved. We just got the first look Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse trailer and here’s everything we know about the sequel and its follow-up.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Trailer

Yesterday we got to see the first look for the sequel to the Academy Award-winning animated Spider-Man movie. The clip we saw took us to another ride into the Spider-Verse as Spider-Gwen comes to visit Miles Morales so that they can go for a ride. Then we are taken across a crazy animated world as Miles is dragged along it with some wonderful visual flares. The opening scene is actually something we saw in the very first movie and it was definitely exciting to see the characters come back again. Spider-Man 2099 makes a return and he is seen next to Miles Morales as the latter is picked up by the former Spider-Man.

Across the Spider-Verse Two Parted Sequel

Sony had announced that the highly exciting sequel to the Spider-Verse venture is not going to be a single film and it will rather be split into two films- a Part One, and a Part Two. This announcement was made right during the reveal of the first look for the movie at Brazil’s CCXP. The news of splitting it into two movies comes out as quite exciting considering the first movie was successful because of its scale. It seems that writer David Callaham started writing the movie even before Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had hit the theatres.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter David Callaham had said:

[Chris and Phil] said, ‘We have this animated Spider-Man movie we are doing.’ They were still working on the first movie. They couldn’t tell me what it was going to look like. Because it’s them, I said, ‘I’ll come in and see what you have. I don’t get it.’ They showed me an animatic, which at the time looked like napkin drawings with temp vocals and no animation styling behind it. I could feel the heart behind it, but I couldn’t imagine how spectacular this thing could be yet. They showed me some still images of some of the art they had been working on. With them, I trust them implicitly and I believed they were going to do something special. I said, ‘OK,’ and they said, ‘Great. Pitch us a sequel.’ So I began the very strange process of working on the sequel for a year before the original came out.

As we get excited to see Part One come out in the upcoming year, it seems we don’t have to wait for much longer to see the conclusion to the two-parted sequel. Miller and Lord revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“Miles’ story is an epic. We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise, we realized it was two movies instead of one. We’re working on them both as we speak. Part Two will be out sometime in 2023. We will sleep again in 2024.”

What’s Miles Morales Been Up To?

The clip shows us Miles Morales a bit more grown-up than the last time we saw him but still the same unsure guy trying to manage his life with his parents and as Spider-Man. The creators behind the movie Phil Lord and Cristopher Miller have been quite open about the questions regarding the project in order to hype us up. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Phil Lord and Cristopher Miller revealed what Miles might have been up to since the last time we saw him. They mentioned:

He’s been trying to step into big shoes. Realizing it’s not so easy to juggle family and growing as a spider-person, and that it’s lonely hiding the truth about yourself from the people you love.

Spider-Man 2099 Returns

Remember the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse included a cameo from Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099. The actor will be returning on the role once again and this time he might be one of the major characters in the movie as we will get to see a lot of exciting new adventures with him tagging along. The actor only had one condition to continue with the role according to Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. They revealed that:

Oscar had one condition of taking the gig: ‘Don’t make me boring.’ He’s made a really complex character out of Miguel O’Hara, and he’s definitely not boring.

The actor was also excited to return to the role as he revealed in an interview with Fandom:

I would love to inhabit that character for more as well, so let’s hope so!

Plot Details For The Movie

We might get to see a whole new crew of Spider-People that might range across multiple characters. Sony Pictures Animation revealed this detail in the official plot synopsis for the movie, that read:

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

This might mean that we might not get to see some of the fan-favorite characters from the first movie making a return here as fans might remember that some of the Spider-People did not have a nice end. But it won’t be too far-fetched to imagine that some of these characters might return for some later part of the massive project it will end up being. The sequel is supposed to have a massive narrative that will explore a lot of new dynamics and all kinds of new people into the crazy Spider-Verse.

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson have taken over the directorial duties for the movie. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer David Callaham has written the sequel to the animated movie. Shameik Moore will be returning to voice the character of Miles Morales who will be the protagonist of the project featuring a vast group of Spider-People.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be returning to write and produce the movie again since the last time. The movie will also see the return of Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy a.k.a. Spider-Gwen. The movie will see the debut of Issa Rae as Spider-Gwen. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on October 7, 2022.
