Does The Pym Arrow in Hawkeye Create a Plot Hole?

Episode 3 of the latest Disney+ miniseries, Hawkeye, is finally out, and oh, what a blast it was! The episode revealed some crucial parts of Echo’s past while Clint and Kate attempt to break free from the Tracksuit Mafia. Also, the episode saw a car chase scene, similar to the one in the comic. But this time, the chase ended with a big twist. The twist was so big that it might have created a plot hole in the MCU continuity. It’s about the Pym Arrow in Hawkeye.

Disney+’s Hawkeye Episode 3 saw the archers showing off their trick arrows for the very first time. They use the arrows in the car chase when the Tracksuit Mafia, along with their leader, Echo, tries to recapture them. some of the notable arrows seen in the sequence were an acid arrow, smoke arrow, USB arrow (similar to the one seen in What If…?), and a Spider-web arrow. But the most interesting one of them was an arrow infused with Pym Particles.

Clint used this Pym Tech arrow to finally stop the Tracksuit Mafia from chasing them by dropping a 50 m long arrow at a right angle, right on top of the Manhattan Bridge. Now the question is, where did he get his hand on the Pym Particles? From Scott Lang?

WAS IT DURING THE EVENTS OF CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Clint Barton and Scott Lang would have met for the first time when they fought for the Team Cap. Before that, Barton didn’t even know that something like Pym Particles even existed. And just after they met, they were dragged into the battle, so they would not have acquainted then. Then Hawkeye saw Lang using his powers for the very first time when he saw Lang shrinking down an entire fuel tank and using it on War Machine. But before they had enough time to exchange some dialogues, the fight ended with each member of the Team Cap either on the run or imprisoned in the Raft. Also, note that their cells were separate so they would not have gotten a chance to know more about each other.

After that, both of them were transferred to a house-arrest, too far from each other. This continued in the events of Ant-Man and The Wasp which ended with Scott Lang in the Quantum Realm until long after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Meanwhile, Barton was functioning as Ronin, going from continent to continent. Still no contact!

In Endgame, Barton returned to the Avengers Compound in time for the Time Heist. He even test ran the Time Navigator, using the Pym Particles. After that, he would have gotten some time to know each other. But the limited supply of the Particles would have restricted the particles’ exchange. The Heist led to the battle where the entirety of the Avengers Compound was in pieces. Again, NO contact!

Then they would have talked to each other after the battle but between Tony being dead and arranging for his funeral, it is highly unlikely that they would have gotten enough time to talk.

SO DID HE GET IT FROM HANK PYM?

We know this is absurd but let’s consider this possibility. Hank being the owner and creator of the Pym Particles, would make sense if Barton approached him directly. Again, this is unlikely as there has been no prior connection between Hank and Clint. Plus, Hank’s hatred for Stark and his friends would not have helped his situation. So, there is no chance that Clint could have gotten his hands on the Particles legitimately. Unless, after seeing what Stark and Hulk did for the Universe, Pym could have gone soft on the Avengers. He might have begun to help the Avengers from here on out. Hawkeye takes place in December 2024. So, maybe he would have met with Hank Pym behind the scenes.

Marvel needs to explain this in the next episodes. You have to understand that this is not something Marvel can just ignore, given their history of putting so much thought into every frame. Also, it is highly unlikely that Marvel would address this issue in the future episode because of Echo and an even bigger villain on his way. Plus, if Yelena Belova is to appear in the series, the next three episodes would be packed with action.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez, Brian d’Arcy James, and possibly, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin.
