Last year and this year saw the worst effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and this also affected the entertainment industry. This saw various projects being delayed by a year and some getting even further delayed. There was a clear indication that people weren’t going to go to the cinemas to watch their favorite releases. Around the end of this year as the number of cases relaxed some of the most major projects were released and they did experience a certain box office success. But the various production delays during the pandemic actually led to the release dates for some of the major projects facing major delays. Let’s take a look at 5 amazing movies of 2021 that were supposed to be released but got delayed.

Avatar 2

James Cameron will return to the world that he started with the massively successful cinematic venture from 2009 Avatar. This time around we will get to explore the beautiful world of Pandora with Jake Sully and Neytiri as they attempt to build a family. There will be a lot of faces from the original film returning and making for a lot more exciting things to witness for the fans. Cameron will be releasing two sequels for the movie and this has increased hype and excitement for the franchise. The original release date for the movie was December 17 this year but now it has been pushed by a year to 16 December 2022.

 

The Batman

Fans of DC were much excited when it was announced that we will get to see another original Batman project. Over the years there have been a lot of renditions of the character and each one had reasons to be the most exciting movie. We got to see the first trailer for The Batman in August 2020 and it was definitely something that increased hype for the movie. The tone of the trailer along with the much exciting depiction of the characters from the comics made sure that it will be an interesting take on the world of Batman. Production for the film faced a lot of delays during the pandemic and this led to the release date for the project being shifted to March 4, 2022, from October 1 of this year.

 

Top Gun: Maverick

Tom Cruise has always been able to attract the audience with his projects be it the Mission Impossible movies or anything else. Fans of Top Gun were surprised that the movie will be getting a sequel after 34 years. The star would be seen leading the sequel with even Val Kilmer returning in his role as Iceman in the sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. With an original date of release on July 2, 2021, the pandemic made sure the movie got delayed by about a year with the new release date being May 27, 2022.

 

Uncharted

Gaming fans were absolutely excited by the fact that there was going to be a movie adaptation of the popular adventure gaming series Uncharted. This project has been under development for a long time and it seems Ruben Fleischer’s remake will definitely initiate a successful franchise. Putting Tom Holland as the protagonist was just the cherry on the top that is needed to prove that it will be a success.

Mark Wahlberg also joined the project as Sully and this is a clear indication that we will get to see a lot of things from the games being referenced here. The studios were obviously only going to release it at a time when most of the audience will be able to enjoy it in Cinemas and that has to be the reason why it saw so many changes in release dates. Uncharted will be released in theatres worldwide on February 18, 2022.

 

Tomb Raider 2

Another major game series with almost a similar narrative is the Tomb Raider, and it has also seen a recent live-action adaptation. The first movie wasn’t very successful with the fans who much preferred the previous adaptation that featured Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. But the movie was still supposed to have a sequel and the project went through developmental hell. Ben Wheatley was supposed to helm the project with backing from MGM but production had to be put on halt due to the pandemic and the director left the project. Based on the latest information, Misha Green has been brought in to helm the project and she would also be writing the script for the movie. With an initial release date of March 19, 2021, the movie has not confirmed a new release date yet.
