Why Peter Quill Will Not Get His Celestial Powers Back
Eternals has come out in theaters worldwide and fans have been introduced to a whole new way of looking at the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the movie has introduced completely new characters and theories revolving around the MCU. But at the same time, the movie was also able to provide explanations for the past events of the MCU. We have been able to get a whole new depth towards the world we have been viewing and exploring so far. But at the same time, fans might have gotten confused while making their own connections based on theories. James Gunn has clarified that Peter Quill will not get his Celestial powers back after a fan tried to connect the dots through what happened in Eternals.
Eternals
The concepts that Eternals tried to bring were something the had been shown to us previously to consider we got our first Celestial back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. Eternals was able to bring some clarity towards their existence and showed us how their world works. But this was not all considering the movie also gave us some clarity towards who are and who aren’t these so-called Celestial beings in the MCU. Diving into this discussion must have led to a whole new set of theories set around characters who have been hinted at having Celestial connections.
Peter Quill Will Not Get His Celestial Powers Back
We got a glance at Peter Quill’s Celestial powers when he was able to hold the Power Stone with his bare hands at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. While this was only a hint consider we got to see him explore his powers as the son of a Celestial in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. There we got to see him use matter manipulation as he fought against his father Ego. This was the basis of a theory that ScreenRant suggested.
According to the theory:
Peter Quill might have lost the powers that came along with his Celestial DNA when he killed his Celestial father to prevent his genocidal plan from coming to fruition, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still half-Celestial and unable to connect with the “light” that he draws his power from. Ego drew his “light” from his own planet, and as a half-human, half-Celestial being, it would make sense if Quill draws his “light” from Earth.
In fact, being back on Earth and getting in touch with that “light” might bring his Celestial powers back.

James Gunn recently took to Twitters to respond to the various fan questions surrounding Peter Quill after we saw the Celestials appear in Eternals. @Attitudist expected that this movie would give a chance at showing Star-Lord’s true potential. But Gunn shut these expectations down with his Tweet as he mentioned:
He gave all that up.

This was not all as another fan brought in the theory ScreenRant had suggested. There has been a major Easter Egg surrounding the fact that Peter’s mother Meredith Quill was a humanoid form of Eternity. This was actually considered to be the missing Easter Egg that fans had been looking for over the years after the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie came out. If this were true then Peter was also the son of Eternity and this would clearly mean that there is a chance that we might get to witness Peter Quill’s Celestial powers again. But James Gunn shut down this theory from @tabali_tigi by saying:
He was seeing eternal life, not Eternity the Marvel comics being. He turned that down to save earth & his fellow Guardians.
This means that there are no ties between Eternity from the comics with Peter Quill and this completely cancels one of the means through which Star-Lord could have shown his true potential. Fans may wonder that this is a joke but James Gunn is known for being absolutely honest with his fans on social media. Peter Quill’s powers went away after he killed his father and that was the last time we got to see his powers.\
Are you sad that Peter Quill will not get his Celestial powers back and he is not the son of Eternity? Or do you think James Gunn was lying about this? Let us know in the comments.
