Avengers: Endgame – Why Hulk Has Been Totally Absent From The Trailers?

The marketing of Avengers: Endgame has been totally different from any other film we have ever seen. It has been same as far as the number of trailers released is concerned because every May movie since 2016 has had 2 trailers and a Super Bowl TV Spot released before the flurry of TV Spots, clips and other stuff that comes out in the last 15 days of the movie’s release. But the way these trailers for Endgame have been edited is totally different.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

The trailers for Infinity War included almost every character that was there in the film, but the Endgame trailers have not done so. It is obvious that Marvel wouldn’t use any footage related to the disintegrated and dead characters, but what’s so intriguing is that they haven’t actually used any scene that comes from the second or third act of the film. Most of the trailer shots or probably all of them are strictly from the 1st 30 minutes of the film.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

No other movies have had this privilege of not having to use the footage from the entire movie. Films like Venom which have to completely sell themselves to the audience actually include the final scenes in the trailer, but Endgame isn’t that. It could have done well even without using marketing the film, but that’s easier said than done. Nevertheless, using the footage of the surviving characters is what we totally expected. But even in that, a key Avenger was nowhere to be seen.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

3 sets of footage and what we have got for the Hulk are only 3 slow-mo shots of Bruce Banner. We know that Hulk isn’t to be revealed until Banner solves his Hulk problem, but at least something could be given to us. This movie has to be big for the original 6 Avengers and Hulk not getting enough to do would again be kind of a problem. Infinity War conveniently sat him out of action, but Endgame has to make up for that.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

The Hulk is going through a 3 movie story arc and Endgame could turn out to be his final MCU film, so Marvel has to make it count. But why has there been nothing related to the Hulk in the trailers? The reason that we know is nothing but the fact that Marvel is building something insane and huge with the Green Rage Monster and they want us to see him entirely in the film. But the real reason could actually be something entirely different.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

We know that we will be getting a Hulk where he gets to be out physically while Banner gets to be in charge mentally. Everyone knows that this is the Professor Hulk version. But, that may not be the case entirely. Hulk has to make Thanos fear him when the second battle happens and so that may not happen with him just being Professor Hulk. The last time they fought, Thanos proved to be way more superior to Hulk without actually using the Infinity Stones. So, Hulk would need an edge to even become an equal to what Thanos is. And the answer to this could be World Breaker Hulk.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

For those of you who don’t know, World Breaker Hulk is the version of the Green Goliath was the one who led the actual Planet Hulk storyline. Various heroes on Earth believed that Hulk is becoming dangerous for the people of Earth so they decide to sedate him, and put him on a space ship so he lands on a planet where there are only plants.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

But Hulk wakes up mid-flight in space and feels really betrayed and obviously angry. He starts to rip the ship off and lands on a nearing planet which didn’t have just plants, but was populated with individuals that could actually hurt him.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

This is where Bruce and Hulk make an agreement that Bruce will control the brains while Hulk gets to be the body (just like Professor Hulk) in order to survive. Hulk then becomes a gladiator on the planet, beats everyone and overthrows the ruler of the planet with a revolution. He then also meets his better half and the two expect a kid.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

But then, the ship he arrived was made to explode by someone on that planet, and Hulk was made to believe that the Avengers rigged it to explode if things went wrong. What happened with the explosion was the death of his wife and his unborn child. This unlocked complete berserker rage within him and he set course for Earth in order to destroy the planet once and for all.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

He arrived upon Earth so angry and so strong that he couldn’t be stopped with anything. The Hulkbuster, Black Bolt, and every other Avenger wasn’t a match for him. He got so angry and so strong that his mere steps upon Earth caused massive Earthquakes. He had the strength to completely break the world, and that’s where the name “World Breaker” came from.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

Now if you compare this story from the MCU, Hulk was himself the one to decide that he should get away from Earth as he causes more harm than benefit. That led him to land upon Sakaar, which was as “Planet Hulk” as we could get without a solo Hulk movie. The ruler of Sakaar was overthrown by a revolution but the schematics were totally different. Now Hulk has returned to Earth but his return is nothing like the comics. But that doesn’t mean that we cannot still get World Breaker Hulk here. He may obviously not be called that, but he could very well be similar to that.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

But to be a version of that, Hulk has to go really mad with anger. Till now nothing of any sorts has happened that could actually make him that mad. We may have seen a very slight glimpse of that madness in Age of Ultron when Scarlet Witch showed him something that still stands to be one of the biggest MCU mysteries. But that obviously won’t happen in Endgame. To make him “World Breaker” angry, something very big has to happen. In the MCU, there are 3 ways in which that could happen.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

One of the easiest guesses to make him extremely angry is to kill off Black Widow. He and Nat still probably have unresolved feelings for each other and that was clearly hinted at in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. So if Natasha dies, then Hulk could go crazy with anger, and hence we could get the strongest version of Hulk in the comics, i.e. World Breaker.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

The second reason for that could be if all the Avengers died (the details in this could vary). Kevin Feige and other Endgame creatives did say that this will be a very emotional and heavily sentimental story especially for the original 6. Having Hulk hidden from everywhere could mean that something big related to him is coming. With this potentially being his final outing, Marvel has to make him go out all guns blazing.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

That brings us to the third reason which is actually a theory. It has been suggested by many people that someone from the Avengers will get his own Infinity Gauntlet to take on Thanos. Now the Gauntlet is made up of Uru metal, and Thor has claimed in the past that weapons made up of Uru metal are so strong that mere mortals can’t just wield them as their bodies would crumble and minds would go into the eternal abyss.

Avengers: Endgame Hulk

So, among the Avengers only Thor, Captain Marvel, and the Hulk could possibly wield an Infinity Gauntlet because their power levels are similar to that of Thanos. So, if the Hulk gets it then his mind could react to the strength of the Uru Metal. Perhaps the Gauntlet and the Infinity Stones could do a trick upon him and unlock World Breaker Hulk! That could be how Thanos is beaten.

All this is just speculation, but things do point to the fact that World Breaker Hulk is what Marvel is really hiding from us.
