Netflix Drops The Awesome New Trailer For The Witcher Season 2

The Witcher premiered with its first season in 2019 and it was massive with the fans of the books and the games too. It featured a world that was just what fans needed following the end of Game of Thrones. Fans wanted more from this world and Netflix provided us accordingly with the spin-off film and a second series. The series introduced us to a magical world that didn’t hold back anything in terms of violence. Featuring some of the most interesting sword-fighting sequences the series deserved a second season for the fans of the world. Netflix just dropped the trailer for The Witcher season 2 and it clearly means larger battles and some exciting references to the games.

The Witcher

The Witcher debuted to a massive positive reception from both critics and the fans of the world of Witcher. Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels of the same name, the first season took us on a ride with Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia as he slays monsters and navigates through the plots of characters Yennefer and Ciri. The ending of the series left us excited to see what else we would be allowed to explore in this world. Meanwhile, the second season sees Geralt binging Princess Cirilla to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen in order to prevent those trying to hunt her down.

Fans can be sure there will be a lot more to be witnessed from this world considering Netflix realized the potential of the material and ordered multiple branches to the main storyline. An anime prequel spin-off film was released earlier this year titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Season 3 for the series has already been ordered considering we will be getting the second season around the end of the year. Along with this, a prequel series titled The Witcher: Blood Origin is already under production. The trailer for the second season only increases the excitement for the long-awaited upcoming premiere.

Fans had gotten hints about the new season based on various teasers that were released while the series was in production. This new trailer definitely increases the anticipation for the project considering it features a lot more than we had gotten from the first season. Readers of the books are aware of what we might get to witness from the series this time around. We got a chance to witness Geralt prepare Cirilla for the battles that they have to face in their intertwined destiny. While Geralt will get a rather exciting power boost but we are yet to see what that brings for the duo in terms of the danger that is teased here. It will all definitely make for a rather interesting arc in the series.

Villains From The Game Teased

The series has mostly taken narratives from the book but it is no wonder that they will take things from the games too considering the massive fanbase it has. We get to see a glowing house on legs around the midpoint of the trailer and it is followed by blinding by light and a cut to a whole new scene. This could be a clear nod to the presence of the Crones in the series. The Crones are not a part of the Witcher book series but they feature rather prominently in the video game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The origin of the Crones could be linked to the Slavic folklore Baba Yaga. In the game, the character is generally depicted as old crone but at the same time, they are also featured as three witch-like child-eating monstrous sisters who live in a roving cabin. This could be the clear parallel that is drawn from the trailer. The game has Geralt being tasked to kill these monsters and that is a clear indication of one of the battles that we will get to see in the series.

Many other new foes are also featured in the trailer with a clear scene indicating Ciri and Geralt battling the dreaded forest spirit Leshen. This is one of the most interesting parts of the series and there is no wonder the second season will definitely double down on this detail. We will get to witness Ciri and Geralt being pitted against a rather interesting array of mystical monstrous creatures. The Witcher season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 17.
