Kathryn Hahn Will Return in an Agatha Harkness Spinoff, and Other MCU Movies
Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness won the Emmy for best original OST, with her song “Agatha All Along”. She was also nominated for an Emmy in the acting category, but she did not win that one. There is a chance she might get another shot at it. According to her new contract with marvel, Kathryn Hahn will return in an Agatha Harkness spinoff, and other MCU projects.
Deadline reports that:
“The potential spinoff would be centered around Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness character which Hahn is set to reprise across the MCU – on streaming and in movies – under a larger deal she has made with the studio.”
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has tried a lot of things. It has done movies and tv shows but it ventured into sitcom territory with WandaVision. Everyone thought the experiment would fail. But it landed the show an Emmy. It has been a weird ride but a successful one for the show. However, the new spinoff on Agatha Harkness is supposed to be a ‘dark comedy. Another first for the MCU. Will this experiment succeed?
Kathryn Hahn had this to say about reappearing in the MCU:
“If I were to ever come back, there’s so many aspects of her that I think are fascinating,” said Hahn in an interview. “She touches in so many different worlds throughout the comics. You know, she’s a centuries-old witch and has seen a lot, and there’s a lot of different people and beings that she’s crossed paths with over the last couple of centuries, so that would be a blast to explore.”
Kathryn Hahn Will Return in an Agatha Harkness Spinoff
So who is this Agatha? Why is it so important to warrant her own show in the MCU? No plot details, production schedule, or release date has been hinted at as of yet. There is only the confirmation of a spinoff and some rumors suggesting that Hahn may appear in future MCU movies. This is interesting because Agatha Harkness has a very interesting history in the comics. She is one of the oldest witches and has been a teacher to Wanda.
Much like WandaVision, but this story goes well beyond what happened in that show. Let me break it down for you. In the comics, Agatha Harkness was first introduced as a Governess to Franklin Richards. She fought alongside the Fantastic 4 for a long time. But then moved on to being a teacher to Wanda. Darkness was the one who taught Wanda how to use the power of hexes. She taught Wanda, got her to hone her skills, and was eventually murdered by the scarlet which leading up to the “House Of M” comic storyline.
Agatha Harkness has also had run-ins with a Kang Variant. This Kang calls himself Immortus. Agatha reveals him to be the real villain behind the fate of Scarlet Witch and Vision. We keep saying it was Agatha all along because in the comics Harkness is the one who makes a deal with Mephisto to help Wanda get her sons back. All of this can and will be used by Marvel Studios to create one of the craziest story arcs for Wamda and Vision that will tie into the Multiversal War. There is about to be an explosion of Kangs, and we are not ready.
Conclusion
We think that Phase IV will be one of the most explosive phases of MCU ever. It is only a matter of time before this story finds its trigger, much like how the Infinity Saga found a trigger with Iron Man. Will Agatha be the perpetrator of this chaos. Or will be Kang and his army if himself. It is quite an interesting prospect to think that Marvel is going the route of focusing on single characters before building a bigger universe.
What will Agatha do? Will she come back to confront Wanda or to teach her. As the Scarlet Witch is already rumored to be in Multiverse of Madness, we think the Agatha Harkness spin-off will most likely take place after that movie. There’s a chance that Agatha is more important for Phase V than we think. She could be Loki to Kang’s Thanos. Wouldn’t that be interesting? Let us know in the comments below.
