Avengers: Endgame –
Less than 3 months are left before we get to witness the Endgame that the Avengers are currently in. Even with so many characters inbound bringing their important story arcs into the film, there’s one character who will stand out the most as compared to the others. That character is none other than Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. He has always been the heart of the MCU, with the most number of appearances in the film, but now we will see him appear one last time.
Doctor Strange traded the Time Stone so Thanos would spare Tony’s life, and since Strange saw the future, he saw exactly how important Tony Stark is for the plot of the film. Directors Joe & Anthony Russo have revealed that the likes of Captain America and even Black Widow are going to get extended roles this time around, and the likes of Hawkeye, Hulk and Thor would obviously have bigger roles moving forward, but none of their roles will play as big of a part as Tony Stark’s arc does.
As of now, he is adrift in space, hoping for the last moment “Rescue” before he and probably Nebula run out of resources to survive. It has been evident that pepper will get to wear an armor in the film which will be called the Rescue Armor, and the only logical reason for this suit to be there in the film is for Pepper to save Tony. Also, Audi’s exclusive VR Gaming experience called the Rocket’s Rescue Run has more or less revealed that he will help Pepper to Rescue Tony from wherever he is in space.
One thing that we also found out through Audi’s promotion of E-tron Gt is that Tony Stark will drive the car at some instance in the film. So till now, we know that Tony will survive his return from Titan, and he will drive the new Audi at some point in time. Apart from this, the set photos have shown an older version of Tony Stark in play. He was seen wearing a SHIELD outfit, which earlier suggested that he will take over SHIELD in the absence of Nick Fury. But things are not as simple as they seem.
Set photos have shown him to be in the same SHIELD attire that the agents of SHIELD were wearing at the time they caught Loki back in the first Avengers movie. So it is believed that to prevent coming across his younger self in the past, the Tony from present times will replace one of those Soldiers to get a one on one with Loki, and probably sneak in a message that he remembers in the future.
He will also have scenes with Captain America from the first Avengers movie, or probably the present Captain America who is dressed as his younger self from the first Avengers movie. Since the set photos have shown him having tracking dots all over his clothing, he could probably be wearing the Quantum Realm suit which has been leaked through Concept Arts and toys. The word out there suggests that these suits will be totally Nano tech, and will be stored in the mysterious wrist devices seen in various set photos.
So perhaps after his return, Tony will come up with this tech with the help of Shuri, Banner and probably even Rocket. An Infinity War featurette showed an interview with Robert Downey Jr. on a set that largely looks like a room from Wakanda, and so it means that Tony will go to Wakanda at some point of time.
His meeting with Ant-Man will give him the knowledge of the Quantum Realm, and hence Time Travel. Also, the death of Peter Parker will have had a huge impact upon him, so he would work his ass off to reverse the snap, and all this could lead us to the vision he saw during Age of Ultron.
Leaked LEGO set descriptions have confirmed that we will be seeing Tony’s armory, and Mark 1, Mark 5 & Mark 41 are confirmed to be in that room. Apart from that, we will surely the best suit of Iron Man that we have ever seen. It will be a step ahead of the Infinity War suit as well.
Rumors also suggest that the reason why Tony Stark is so important for the movie is that he will come up with an armor that would be able to harness the power of all the Infinity Stones, and that will probably be the Thanos Buster. But we cannot be sure of this.
One possibility that we could see in his armor room is an upgraded Iron Legion. We saw a concept art of the Iron Legion before Infinity War came out and that was nowhere to be seen in the previous film, so that could have some precedence in Avengers: Endgame. But the big factor related to his role in the film is how Marvel plans to end his story arc.
Tony Stark has always been the face of Marvel for the last 11 years. He’s the one who started it all, and he is the one who should logically end things. But we don’t know whether he will get a happy retirement or a sad death. With the things that he has been through in the last decade or so, one could argue that everything that we have seen till now has been leading us to his death, but with Infinity War teasing his wedding, it is highly possible that Steve Rogers goes out dying, while Tony Stark gets a happy ending with Pepper and Tony getting married.
We cannot be sure of this as of now, but the upcoming Super Bowl TV Spot and the second trailer could give us some more insight upon Tony’s role in the film. Here’s the official Synopsis of Avengers: Endgame:
“Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.”
