8 Storylines That Marvel Dropped Midway And Still Has Not Finished

Over the last thirteen years of the MCU, the developers have dropped multiple hints and easter eggs teasing upcoming movies. These hints tie the movies together in a chaotic timeline. These easter eggs were to lead to a new story but over the years, some of them just got forgotten in the bag. Some hints were just a one-time thing, not likely to show up, while some were just ignored by the MCU. Even the audience had forgotten some of them. And now as the multiverse unravels, the creators might pick up these storylines once again. So here’s a list of 8 storylines that Marvel dropped or ignored, and can pick them later.

8. THE EFFECT OF EXTREMIS ON PEPPER POTTS

Aldrich Killian injected the Extremis serum into Pepper Potts’ body in Iron Man 3. The serum even saved her life near the end of the movie but that serum was incomplete. As Maya Hansen pointed out, the Extremis’ formula was incomplete. Since Tony refused to help him, Killian gave Pepper the incomplete serum so that Tony finds a way to complete it to cure Pepper. However, Aldrich dies before Tony cured Pepper.

But what keeps some fans up at night is the question, “What really happened to Pepper after Tony sorted it out?” Did he complete the formula, recreated it, or find a way to extract it from Pepper’s body? Plus, can Pepper still has the Mandarin’s powers, and did it pass on to her next of kin, Morgan Stark? These questions have been left unaddressed for a long time now.

7. WHAT HAPPENED WHEN NICK FURY WENT HUNTING FOR HYDRA?

At the end of Captain America: Winter Soldier, Nick Fury bid farewell to Captain America and went on his mission to take down the rest of the HYDRA. What Fury did after that is still unknown. He did appear on the Agents of Shield and there are some moments where he is tracking down agents of HYDRA. Although, Agents of Shield is not MCU canon as of yet. The tales of his adventures after the 2014 film are yet to be told.

6. DID AVA STARR (GHOST) DISAPPEARED IN THE SNAP TOO?

Storylines That Marvel Dropped

The post-credits scene of 2018’s Ant-Man And The Wasp revealed Scott going into the Quantum Realm to extract healing particles for Ava. Unfortunately, Hank Pym, his wife, and Hope disappear after Thanos wiped the earth of half its beings. But what about Ava? Her body cells’ condition was pretty bad during the movie and without these healing particles, how did she survive for 5 years? Did she snap away too? Or did she just disappear forever because of lack of treatment? Even though Scott returned with the solution to bring everybody back, Ava’s condition is yet to be addressed in the MCU.

5. THE ADVENTURES OF LADY SIF

The first two installments of the Thor franchise were a little loose with the characters, especially the Warriors Three & Lady Sif. Before appearing in Loki’s memory prison in the Disney+ series, Lady Sif was last seen in Thor: The Dark World. However, her absence in Thor: Ragnarok is still not forgotten by the fans. The upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder will be mainly focussed on Jane Foster and her journey from a human to the Goddess of Thunder. Even though Lady Sif is included in the cast, the inconsistencies of her character in the previous movies might go unaddressed.

4. THE ATLANTIS OF MCU

One of the many easter eggs in Iron Man 2 was of the lost city of Atlantis. The movie showed a blinking point in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in the background map which belonged to SHIELD. For many years, fans thought that the MCU’s Aquaman, Namor will finally join the MCU’s vast roster of superheroes. But once again, fans were disappointed. This storyline was dropped and never spoken of again. The creators teased the character for future introduction in the MCU but the character’s ownership issues were pretty complicated.

3. THE SMILE OF A LEADER

Storylines That Marvel Dropped

The MCU die-hard fans still remember Tim Blake Nelson’s wide grin at the end of 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Dr. Samuel Sterns (Nelson) helped Bruce Banner to find a cure for his ‘Hulk’ problem but was actually reworking it with Emil Blonsky. Blonsky used the serum on himself and turned into the Abomination. However, the movie didn’t actually show Sterns becoming the monster he was supposed to be in the comics.

2. DID THOR REALLY GO LOOKING FOR THE INFINITY STONES?

By the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Thor went looking for his vision of the Infinity Stones. The movie was expected to set up the Infinity Saga for the future but the results didn’t really pan out. Thor could’ve shown using the Infinity Stones to defeat Hela but the creators had something else in mind (that panned out really good though). So did Thor really went looking for answers to different realms and planets or did he not go at all? Since the only Infinity stone featured in the movie was Tesseract, what did Thor do while he was searching for the others?

1. THE INTRODUCTION TO ADAM WARLOCK

The mid-credits scene of GotG Vol. 2 revealed Ayesha, the ruler of the Sovereign showing off an advanced birthing pod. The pod is expected to contain an advanced member of their species who is expected to take down the Guardians of the galaxy. The creature is named Adam, as in Adam Warlock in the comics but so far nothing is confirmed by the MCU. Though we might see him again in the third movie of the franchise, there has been no official news regarding Warlock. Fans have numerous questions about the character and the ignorance by MCU is killing them. Is he even going to be out of the pod in the movie?
