Spider-Man 3: How Doctor Strange Still Has The Eye Of Agamotto

Spider-Man: No Way Home is all set to amp it up. The fans love Tom Holland as their new Spider-Man. While there is no doubt that this particular project is promising, it looks like something bigger lurks in the shadow. Let’s try not to forget that we already have older villains like Electro and Dr. Ocotpus returning. Also, Doctor Strange is making way. And now that the movie is closing in, we just recently got a look at the new Pop figures. It came with a lot of details, such as various versions of Spidey’s suits and a possible combination of them with Strange’s magical powers. But one detail that has my attention is the return of Time Stone. The merch revealed that Doctor Strange still has the Eye of Agamotto. So, let’s talk how that might be plausible.

Doctor Strange Still Has The Eye Of Agamotto

Now to the body of the question. Why is Strange still wearing the Eye of Agamotto? During the events of the Infinity War, it was destroyed by the Mad Titan, Thanos. He crushed it into pieces while choking Doctor Strange, so there wasn’t much the wizard could do without it. In the MCU, the Eye of Agamotto was used to preserve and keep the Time Stone, until Thanos came along. All the stones, including Time Stone, were reduced to atoms by the Thanos. So Doctor Strange’s merch still showing the Eye of Agamotto doesn’t fit the equation.

Doctor Strange Still Has The Eye Of Agamotto

There are several possibilities of the necklace coming back to the MCU. First, after the events of Endgame, Strange could have simply forged a new version of the now gone piece. Considering the absence of the Time Stone, it makes sense for him to have some sort of alternative to cope up with the missing force. The second theory could be that he found an alternate to replace it with during his trip to the multiverse. So this Eye of Agamotto is actually from another dimension if the theory is right.

Last but not the least, it’s very much possible that Strange was merely wearing a fake Eye of Agamotto while fighting Thanos. He had any way hid the Time Stone away, so the Eye was not of much use to him. So, when the heroes came back to life in Endgame, the original Eye of Agamotto was back, but without the Time Stone. Marvel Studios may have done this just to keep the necklace intact in order to go along with Strange’s patent tyle of costume.

Other Theories That Could Explain The Return of Eye of Agamatto

With Loki introducing the TVA, it was made clear that the time-protecting organization had one too many Infinity Stones, casually lying around in a junk drawer. Now, considering the interconnectedness and multiple realities, it’s possible that the TVA would have had an encounter with the TVA and recovered the Time Stone. So, forging a new Eye of Agamotto would make more sense. Or, in the comics, there were three different eyes created. Hence, this is actually a plausible way for Marvel to bring back Strange’s greatest weapon.

The other theory is that Strange is simply choosing to wear the necklace, without the Time Stone. It could be an aesthetic addition to his outfit. Or, a symbol and a reminder of his own failure in giving the stone up to Thanos. Even though they won, the damage his enemy did was incalculable and lasted long. In Marvel Comics, the Eye of Agamotto is a powerful artifact on its own. The wielder can use it to find show the truth. Moreover, it allows the wearer to see through any illusions or disguises.

How Marvel Studios bring back the Time Stone or the Eye of Agamotto will remain in question until it’s officially made clear. But it is understandable if they bring it back because Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a massive film, meaning that Strange’s foe would be his greatest battle. He would definitely need some serious assistance if he is going up against the likes of Scarlet Witch. Maybe that is why the Eye of Agamotto with a different approach would be called back. Infinity Stones have rendered useless since Loki‘s first episode aired. We are set to watch Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 3.
