Actors have been known to go method for their roles in various movies. Often actors would put them into the circumstance of the character they are going to portray in order to give a much more authentic performance. While this does lead to some of the greatest performances in cinema, often this could affect the actors involved. This also includes certain actors doing their own stunts for authenticity and ending up harming themselves with permanent injuries. This has escalated over time with the rise of authenticity in order to get major recognition during the award season. Let’s take a look at some of the major actors who physically damaged themselves for their roles in certain movies:

Matt Damon

Matt Damon is one of the best actors working in the industry today. Over the years he has given us some of the most iconic characters in terms of his performances. There was a time when he had to lose a ton of weight for his role in Courage Under Fire. He decided to take it upon himself and not go to any nutritionist for suggestions. This could have had disastrous consequences on his body as he had to take medication for a year and a half in order to correct the stress that he had put on his adrenal gland.

Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy is slowly earning his reputation as an actor who achieves his best in terms of the role he is provided with. During the making of Dark Knight Rises had to get serious muscles. He made sure that he nailed the appearance which he most certainly did. But this has caused him some issues with his body as he has experienced some problems that didn’t use to exist before this transformation.

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis had to go through an extreme diet for her character in Black Swan. This changed her body permanently as upon regaining her weight the distribution was completely different.

Jackie Chan

Jackie Chan might as well be the most respected actor in the industry working today for doing all his stunts. He has the most injuries due to these stunts and the effect that they have ended up having on his body over the years. One of the most fatal of these injuries has to be the one where he ended up having a crack on his skull and bone piercing his brain. This was a near-death experience for the actor.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto might as well be one of the biggest method actors working in the industry today. He even won an Oscar for his wonderful transformation into his character in the movie Dallas Buyers Club. One such transformation for a role left an impression on his body though. Due to gaining weight for his role in the movie Chapter 27, he started suffering from gouts. He also started experiencing severe pain in his feet and ended up needing a wheelchair for movement around the sets.

Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone was known for his action movie body of work since the ’80s. He is no stranger to doing bizarre stunts for his action movies. His body has faced various injuries over the years based on his movies. At the age of 63, the action legend ended up having a hairline fracture to his neck as he decided to go all-in during a fight scene within Stone Cold Steve Austin for the first Expendables movie.

Jamie Alexander

MCU actors have also experienced various injuries due to their work in movies that often involved severe conditions. During the film of the Thor sequel, the Lady Sif actress ended up falling from quite high up and hurting herself pretty badly. She revealed,” I herniated a disk in my Thoracic spine, I dislocated my left shoulder, I tore my right Rhomboid, and chipped eleven of my vertebrae.”

Daniel Craig

There has to be a reason why Daniel Craig hates returning for portraying the Bond character with every installment. James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the movies and his portrayal requires absolute dedication and often a specific look. His portrayal of Bond is renowned for its much realistic approach as he sometimes ends up doing his own stunts. During the shooting of the upcoming James Bond movie No Time To Die he ended up busting his ankle and was forced to have an emergency surgery which lead to a delay in the film’s production.

George Clooney

George Clooney is no surprise when it comes to some of the most genuine performances on screen. He hasn’t gone for the physical transformation route but instead experienced one of the most horrible experiences in one of his projects. During the torture scene in the movie Syriana, the chair he was tied to was kicked over and that ended up cracking his skull. His spine was also injured and this caused spinal fluid to leak out of his nose.

Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf is known for being one of the most bizarre celebrities in Hollywood, regularly appearing on the news for some of the craziest stories. He ended up putting a real cut on his face since he felt the makeup cuts didn’t look authentic. Not only that he took out one of his teeth and refused to shower for weeks for getting into his character. This comes as no surprise since he is known for going crazy in order to make his characters look authentic on screen.
