Doctor Strange 2: All Terrifying Monsters That Could Show Up

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one of the most highly anticipated sequels in all of MCU. With Benedict Cumberbatch returning as Doctor Stephen Strange, the sequel is all set to dive into the madness caused by the multiverse. However, the multiverse has already been introduced in the Disney+ series Loki. Now that the multiverse is fully in play, the Master of Mystic Arts is in for a tough ride. As of now, no villain has been confirmed. But the hints are pointing directly at Shuma-Gorath. But apart from Gorath, Doctor Strange can encounter other monsters as well. So, here are all the terrifying monsters that Strange can encounter in Doctor Strange 2. Take a look:

Shuma-Gorath

Doctor Strange Magic Based Super Villains

Shuma-Gorath is one hell of a threat and has gone against Strange many times in the comics. His appearance resembles a type of alien octopus that was introduced in “Marvel Premiere #5” in November 1972. He is mostly described as an ancient demon with supernatural powers and he is powerful most of the time. He has ruled over various dimensions over hundreds of thousands of years.

Terrifying Monsters

Marvel describes Shuma-Gorath as, “The archetypal Class Three demon, native to an extradimensional realm. He is one of the “Old Ones” who came to Earth untold millions of years ago, ruling it and feasting on mankind’s ancestors.”Just like many other Elder Gods, he was also banished. According to the comics, this Sorcerer Supreme bad guy is a green multi-limbed Cyclops. He can actually make up for a good opponent.

Chthon

WandaVision introduced the Darkhold which was forged by an Elder God called Chthon. In fact, in the comics, he’s the one who blessed Wanda with the Chaos Magic. In the comics, the Elderly God was imprisoned on the Wundagore mountain. It was the same place where Wanda was born. It’s also said that whenever Wanda uses the Chaos Magic, it tears apart the fabric of reality. This in turn helps Chthon in coming back to Earth.

Chthon’s plan was to use Wanda as the next big Nexus event and help him take over Earth. His book, the Darkhold, has an evil, corrupting influence on everyone who reads it or is the possessor of it. Even Doctor Strange, the Supreme Sorcerer is reluctant to use any of its spells because of the impact they would have on his very soul and the fabric of reality.

Gargantos

Gargantos has been recent;y confirmed the film. Yennifer Molina’s Mandy page has confirmed that the actor has been cast in the upcoming film, via Digital Spy. Her role is listed as “Gargantos Fight 2.” Considering that Shuma-Gorath or Chthon could be the real villain, Gargantos would most probably be a side character. However, this leads to the introduction of a major character in MCU’s future.

Terrifying Monsters

The sea monster first appeared in Sub-Mariner #13. The character has only two comic appearances and served as a servant of Naga. The latter is a long-time nemesis of Namor the Sub-Mariner. So this could be the first big hint at Namor and his arrival to the MCU. Namor is rumored to debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which is releasing on July 8, 2022.

Mephisto

At a point in time, Mephisto became more popular than the Disney+ series WandaVision itself. Fans have been eagerly waiting for Marvel’s version of Satan to debut in the MCU. Mephisto is a devil who is known for striking deals with lost, grief-stricken heroes. Basically like dealing with Satan itself. The villain has become somewhat of a joke for the fandom and could actually dial up the tone of Phase 4 with his debut. Mephisto’s influence is something that Doctor Strange might have to fight.

Nightmare

WandaVision had two post-credits scenes. In the second one, Wanda is seen in isolation somewhere in the hills. However, she is in possession of the Darkhold and is skimming through the pages in the astral plane. But before the scene ends, she could hear her sons. This hinted at the fact the kids are somewhere alive, and most probably in the Nightmare dimension.

Doctor Strange Magic Based Super Villains

If Wanda’s twins are in that dimension, then the evil Nightmare is coming to the MCU. Nightmare’s biggest ability is that he feeds off of people’s fear. But the evil should not be considered weak. He is on the level of such monsters as Dormammu, Shuma Gorath, and Cthulhu. He is a class three demon. As the name suggests, he traps people in their worst nightmares. So, in my opinion, he could be a strong addition to the movie and MCU as well.
