‘Rocky IV’ turned 35 on 27th November 2021, and it’s still one of the fan’s favorite. Releasing in 1985, the plot revolved around a boxer who wants to take revenge on a Russian boxer to avenge his friend’s death which was caused by the boxer. Rocky has been featured in a total of eight films to date. Moreover, he’s participated in over 80 matches throughout his long career as a professional boxer. How Many Fights Did Rocky Balboa Win Throughout His Career
Let’s do a quick recap of his career as seen in the movies. Rocky kicked off his career in Philadelphia during the 1960s. In Rocky II, he faced off against Apollo and was taken to the next level. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was at the prime of his career. He officially retired from the sport in the 1990s. But, he got back in the ring for a single exhibition match in 2006’s Rocky Balboa against Mason Dixon (Antonio Tarver).
His record at the start of the franchise was 43-20. Most of his matches happened prior to the events of Rocky. But in the franchise, he has a record of 57-23-1 in the franchise, which adds up to 81 fights. Well, they do sum up most of the matches he’s been in but exclude some as well. They exclude his win over Tommy Gunn (Tommy Morrison) in Rocky V. That’s because it was a street match and in no capacity whatsoever was a professional match.
Rocky’s Future & Final Win
Rocky as a character in and outside the franchise pleased everyone. Multiple wins and losses were added during his on-screen fights and his 21st loss came when he fought Apollo. So now was the need to establish Rocky as a formidable fighter. All this was corrected in Rocky II’s rematch, which followed it up with ten consecutive wins, all of which being knockouts.
In 1985’s Rocky IV, he faced the worse and toughest opponent yet. He was pitted against the Russian champion Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), who killed Apollo in the ring. Fun fact – In an old interview of Sylvester Stallone, he told the interviewer that Dolph Lundgren’s punch put him in an ICU for 9 days! Balboa survived 15 grueling rounds against Ivan, only to win by K.O. This became his 51st (and final) knockout win of his career.
