10 Highest-Grossing Superhero Movies Not In The MCU Or DCEU

It’s no doubt that both Marvel and DC blast the box office with their super entertaining hits. But, there are other franchises and production houses too, that rule the box office very often! Marvel and DC Universes are extremely interconnected. It is no doubt that when it comes to superheroes, well, successful, they sort of have a monopoly on it. But there are just like many other superhero movies making giant numbers at the box office. So, here’s a list of the top 10 highest-grossing superhero movies, apart from the MCU and DCEU (according To Box Office Mojo)!

Highest-Grossing Superhero Movies Outside MCU and DCEU

1. Incredibles 2 (2018) – $1.25 Billion

Surprised, aren’t you? The highest-grossing film is not from DC or Marvel, but Pixar. I know that the Incredibles doesn’t necessarily stand out, that’s because it isn’t a part of Marvel and DC. But the first installment in the franchise was so refreshing that people absolutely loved it. Honestly, the follow-up was even better. I personally cannot wait for the third flick in the franchise.

2. The Dark Knight Rises (2012) – $1.08 Billion

Christian Bale Refused Nolan For Batman Movie

The Dark Knight Rises was even more successful than its predecessor. The movie was under definite doubts after having to follow Heath Ledger’s Joker. But Bane was an amazing villain and kept the darkness alive throughout the movie. Moreover, he might have given Batman the beating of his life as well. So overall, the movie proved to be extremely successful for DC and Warner Bros. collectively. Nolan literally gave this gold chip to WB.

3. The Dark Knight (2008) – $1 Billion

Highest-Grossing Superhero Movies

This arguably one of Nolan’s best works. It’s one of the highest-rated films of all time, according to IMDb, and one of the most beloved comic book movies ever made. It was a huge win over its predecessor, Batman Begins, as the first movie made just $373 million worldwide. And The Dark Knight made slightly over $1 billion. The film grounded the series in reality with the incredible heist, and the tension only rose with every following scene. Hands down, it’s a major win for Nolan!

4. Spider-Man 3 (2007) – $894 Million

Sam Raimi was in the serious spotlight with his Spider-Man trilogy. Honestly, the movie was not well received by the audience. That’s because the movie had too many villains for just one guy. But the hype for the threequel was unmatched, and a lot of people willingly paid for it. Even though the fans were disappointed, this installment in the franchise surpassed the previous too.

5. Venom (2018) – $856 Million

Tom Hardy is said to be the perfect pick for Venom. This Spider-Man villain and San Francisco anti-hero, Venom, is one of the most recent movies outside of the two franchises to hit ridiculously high numbers. Its place in any specific universe was its biggest problem. So, the movie was under scrutiny was expected to flop. But no! The movie did extremely well! Also, get ready for the sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

6. Spider-Man (2002) – $825 Million

I stand by the claim that Spider-Man was the movie that started the wave for superhero movies which has lasted for almost two decades now. It had the biggest opening weekend of all time up to that point, considering X-Men released before Spider-Man. Speaking of its relevance today, it may seem a little tacky because of the costumes and choppy CGI. But let me tell you, it was a revolution back in the days!

7. Spider-Man 2 (2004) – $788 Million

I know, the numbers seem less, but the sequel was actually a dope hit amongst the fans and critics. Ironically enough, while the sequel is the lowest-grossing movie in the trilogy, it’s actually the highest rated on IMDb and the most beloved by critics. The movie featured Doctor Octopus, played by Alfred Molina, one of the best villains out of any superhero movie.

8. Deadpool 2 (2018) – $786 Million

Highest-Grossing Superhero Movies

Deadpool 2 was in question when its predecessor was such a massive hit. The follow-up actually was a hit and even made more, but only slightly. But considering the studio’s payback, they didn’t earn as much because the budget for this sequel was almost double that of the first. The movie featured Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Josh Brolin as Cable.

9. Deadpool (2016) – $782 Million

This is a classic case of perfect marketing which results in the movie being a hit. Before its release, nobody thought that the movie will be such a massive hit. Deadpool was a revolution change along the lines of a superhero movie. Though 20th Century Fox was so reluctant to go ahead with it at first, it ended up being one of the highest-grossing X-Men franchise movies to date.

10. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) – $757 Million

There have been nine Spider-Man movies within less than 20 years. But it’s amazing that fans aren’t bored of the hero yet. The Amazing Spider-Man wasn’t received well by the fans. But that did not stop the character’s popularity from earning them big bucks. Even though it doesn’t achieve the heights set by Sam Raimi, Andrew Garfield’s efforts were not half as bad.
