Army of the Dead is out on Netflix and most people are enjoying Snyder’s world-building. It has very well served the concept of zombies. Moreover, the cast has very well fit in their roles. But the question is, where do we go from here? Fans are no stranger to Snyder’s cliffhangers, and Army of the Dead was one as well. The movie ends with Vanderohe bitten and about to land in New Mexico. So, how an Army of the Dead sequel has been set up by the latest film?

How Army of the Dead Sets Up Army of the Dead 2

A sequel to Army of the Dead seems almost unavoidable. Zack Snyder, director and co-writer has revealed that he has an “insane” idea for a sequel that is “too crazy”. Snyder told Polygon“:

“Shay [Hatten, Army of the Dead co-writer] and I know exactly what happens next. And it’s insane. I’d make it in a second. What we have planned is too crazy. Once we knew Vanderohe was bit, and he’s going to Mexico City, I was like, ‘You know what’s gonna happen?’ And then I just went on a tear. And by the time it ended, Shay was like, ‘OK.’

The ending sequence of the movie reveals that Vanbderohe is miraculously alive. After Las Vegas is nuked by the govt., Vanderohe comes out of the vault with his life intact. Oh, and also, he did not forget the money. he then makes his way to Utah, and rents a private jet. It was there when it was revealed that his body temperature has dropped significantly. After being escorted to the washroom by the stewardess, Vanderohe notices the bite mark. And he simply responds with, “f***k,’ and the movie ends. However, the fate of Van & New Mexico is unknown at the moment. One of the main reasons how Army of the Dead sets up a sequel.

Easter Eggs Leading To The Army Of The Dead Sequel

Let me big you a big reveal that you probably missed. A few of the zombies in Army of the Dead aren’t actually zombies at all, but rather robots, existing in a zombie world. Moreover, the reason why I bring this to light because of what Snyder said:

“How about the robot zombie? Did you catch those? And the Alpha zombie Zeus escapes from a shipping container with an address for Iran. “Like, is he some sort of covert bioweapon?”

If you remember, then the military men carrying the convoy are discussing Area 51? Maybe in the sequel, we would get to see how Zeus became the Alpha male and more of alien-related government expeditions? Snyder could be alluding to the feud between the US and Iran that was further fuelled during Donald Trump’s time as US President. These two little Easter Eggs serve a huge purpose in setting up the sequel. And of course, the entire purpose of a hidden detail is that one cannot catch it in the first watch.

Could the Sequel Expand Vanderohe’s Time-Loop Theory?

The movie showed a growing friendship between Vanderohe and Dieter. Well, in an interesting turn of events, Vanderohe starts messing with Dieter. He proposes his time-loop theory. Snyder decided to comment on this theory, he said:

“I don’t know, what is the deal? Is Tanaka [the bankroller of the heist operation] Devil or God, and we’re just pawns in some perverse play?”

Halfway through the movie, the crew finally arrived at their target casino. Vanderohe, Guzman, and Dieter discover a set of rotting bodies by the vault. The corpses all appear to be dressed exactly like Vanderohe’s group, right down to a specific necklace. In spite of their tight timeline, Vanderohe drops a theory – maybe the corpses are them from an alternate timeline. Moreover, Snyder’s comment might expand on Van’s theory in the sequel.

Army of the Dead is currently streaming on Netflix. We’re pretty excited for an Army of the Dead sequel. Are you?
