Descendants is Disney’s fantasy musical television film which was originally released in Disney Channel on July 31, 2015. The movie is choreographed and directed by Kenny Ortega starring Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson, Mitchell Hope, Sarah Jeffery etc.
According to the reports, 6.6 million people watched the movie live on Disney Channel on its initial release date (July 31, 2015). Additional 1.4 million users watched the movie via Disney Channel App. Even though High School Musical 3 (2008) had 7.7 million viewers, the combined viewers for Descendants (TV Channel and app) are higher than that of High School Musical 3.
Here is a small overview of the story for all those who haven’t watched the Descendants yet. The movie tells the story of the sons and daughters of Disney villains. Belle and Prince Adam established the land of Auradon after their wedding. The villains of the kingdom are imprisoned in an isolated place called Isle of the Lost. Twenty years have passed and during the time of Prince Ben’s ascendance to the throne of the kingdom, he asks his parents to give a chance for the children of the villains to live in Auradon who are currently living in the Isle of the lost. Four children are chosen and they are now given the opportunity to live in Auradon. What happens next forms the crux of the movie.
The latest news is that the movie is going to have a sequel. Descendants 2 production will start at this summer and is scheduled for premier in the year 2017. The news was officially confirmed by the Chief Creative Officer and President of Disney Channel Worldwide, Gary Marsh. He said: “Just when you thought ‘Happily Ever After’ had come to the land of Auradon, Descendants 2 turns the page to reveal a whole new level of mystery and surprise.”
Kenny Ortega will return as the director and choreographer. Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson will and Mitchell Hope will reprise their roles. China Anne McClain is one of the new confirmed additions to cast. It is also rumored that the sons of Captain Hook and Gaston will be seen in the movie as newly added characters but it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
