Did Marvel Mistakenly Leave a Camera Guy In The Eternals Trailer?

Marvel Studios started the week by releasing a completely new sizzle real on Monday morning to celebrate the return of movie theaters. Marvel Studios revealed its theatrical plans for the next two years. They have unveiled the dates and titles of the highly-anticipated films along with some footage from the movies making their way to theaters later in 2021. This included the very first footage from Chloe Zhao’s Eternals. But fans have spotted a mistake in one of the shots.

A shot of Eternals that gets the spotlight in the sizzle shows most of the film’s characters walking forward. They have a crowd of people behind them. Towards the left side and behind the shoulder of Kumail Nanjiani, we can see someone holding a camera on their shoulder. Few of the fans instantly pointed out that this might be a major error, not unlike the coffee cup in Game of Thrones Season 8. But analyzing further, the camera person may actually be a part of the film.

Camera Spotted in The Matrix

This is not the first time that a major production forgot to edit out a camera operator. So it makes sense that fans instantly assumed this to be the case. But if you add some context to the situation, it shows a different picture. Nanjiani’s character might change how a person looks at the camera behind him. He will be seen playing the character Kingo.

His character description states:

Kingo is the Eternal with the power to project cosmic energy projectiles with his hands. Over the centuries, he has become enamored with the idea of fame. In the present day, he’s a famous Bollywood star who must leave his life of wealth and celebrity to help the team repel the new Deviant threat.

So, Kingo carries himself as a celebrity in most of the shots where he is present. It looks reasonable to think that a camera crew might be following him around. That’s why we’re seeing these cameras around him. If I talk about camera crews, the first group shot is not the only one that features a camera and Kingo. A few seconds later in the sizzle reel, Nanjiani can be seen on-screen in a desert. We can see a man holding a camcorder right next to him. A camera always follows Kingo, no matter where he goes.

Going back again, if we watch the first bit, the camera doesn’t look like it is shooting something. It seems like the camera is off to its operator’s shoulder and aiming towards the ground. The operator walks with the rest of the characters towards what or whoever just arrived. It actually looks like that person is another character. He is interacting with the on-screen world in the same way everyone else is doing. This can also be a Marvel fan digging in a little too deep. The context provided by the identity of Nanjiani’s character helps to point the fact that this is not some major oversight.

Eternals is the 26th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is directed by Chloé Zhao. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Kit Harington, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan. Eternals is scheduled to release on November 5, 2021.

Here is the official synopsis of Eternals:

The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens from a distant planet who arrived on Earth thousands of years ago to protect humanity from a race of alien predators called Deviants. The Eternals were alerted to the Deviant threat by the Celestials, a race of cosmic builders whose fingerprints are on the very building blocks of life itself.

Symbolizing eons of history charted via calendars and other mysterious ancient technologies, the Eternals icon will serve as a subtle nod to the name of these immortal, godlike beings.
