10 Most Amazing Movie Trilogies in Hollywood So Far

It’s not every day that we get to see perfectly connected and equally entertaining follow-ups of a movie. But Hollywood is blessed to have some beautifully crafted gems in its vault. Directors like Christopher Nolan, Richard Linklater, Zack Snyder, etc., are here to give us trilogies that we can cherish forever. Let’s talk about those 10 trilogies that are absolutely perfect (Also keep in mind that I’ve not added John Wick because there are more of those films coming in. This list is for trilogies that are complete):

Planet Of The Apes

best-movie-trilogies-in-hollywood

“Caeser is home,” is a dialogue that sent shivers down the spine. The backstory is simple – the first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), cast James Franco as a chemist attempting to cure Alzheimer’s/ Andy Serkis plays the motion-captured Caesar. He becomes increasingly intelligent and vigilant because of an experimental drug. Its sequels – Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) perfectly continued on the narrative set by its predecessors. It’s an amazing trilogy that actually has a start and endpoint. A highly recommended one from my end!

The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan is a director with the ability to view a script from the audience’s eyes. That is exactly why his movies are outstanding. The Dark Knight trilogy includes – Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). This is a multi-billionaire trilogy right here for you to enjoy. The legendary performance by late Heath Ledger as the Joker is still incomparable. Christian Bale, as ever so gracious, stepped in the boots of Batman and rocked it. The villainy of Gotham City, personal tragedies of Bruce Wayne, vengeance, and the evil of man, everything is perfectly incorporated in the trilogy.

Zack Snyder’s DCEU Trilogy

Zack Snyder is undoubtedly a hot topic since the start of 2021. One should never forget the outstanding trilogy that he has delivered over the years. Beginning from Man of Steel (2013), Snyder perfectly focused on Henry Cavill’s Superman and his haunting Krypton past. Continuing the epic, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) pits the two legends against each other and introduces Doomsday as the ultimatum. Following that, we get to see the four-hour-long cultivation called Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The movie finally introduced the strongest DC villain Darkseid, and the fans lost. From 2013 to 2021, the trilogy keeps you at the edge of your seat.

The Lord Of The Rings

The trilogy becomes ten times more beautiful when it has more than 150 shoot locations. Well, that’s The Lord Of The Rings for you. It is based on the novels by J.R.R Tolkien and follows two hobbits (Elijah Wood and Sean Astin) as they travel through a war-torn Middle-earth in hopes of destroying the powerful One Ring. The trilogy remains true to its core – unknown world and unexpected adventures, thanks to the well-crafted novels. the films are also fantasy and war epics, featuring endless battle sequences, wizards, prophecies, magical creatures, and otherworldly dangers. So, if this is your taste and you have not seen it yet, I would suggest that you binge-watch it.

The Before Trilogy

Let’s start with the origins of the trilogy. In 1995’s Before Sunrise, two people (Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy) meet on a train in Vienna and spend the day talking, debating and falling in love. This is where Richard Linklater’s direction really sinks in. Nine years later, they cross paths once more, and spend another day together, contemplating their futures. The final installment finds them as a married couple, and it is a happy ending you would not want to miss. The Before trilogy paints a vivid portrait of how people grow. The chemistry between the protagonists will leave your mind blown.

The Star Wars Original Trilogy

Science Fiction Movie Franchises

When you get to feast your eyes on iconic characters such as Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earle Jones), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness), you do not easily forget a trilogy. It is a popular opinion that the original Star Wars franchise was truly the one, kicked off by A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and concluded six years later with Return of the Jedi (1983). Over the years, there have been many memorable moments such as Leia’s plea for help, the destruction of the Death Star, and Vader revealing himself as Luke’s (Mark Hamill) father. If you love yourself a spoon of sci-fi added with drama, then go and binge right now!

Kung Fu Panda

This epic trilogy follows Po (Jack Black), a panda who is chosen as the Dragon Warrior in a twisting turn of events. He then goes on an emotional journey to transition himself from a clumsy panda to the greatest warrior ever to be in the history of Kung-Fu. He faces really persona foes and also comes to terms with his past. The animation is out of this world. All the characters add well to Po’s story, and in the last installment, the trilogy really expands. The trilogy includes – Kung Fu Panda (2008), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), and Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016). If you generally love pandas, then you must watch these epic flicks!

The Dollars Trilogy

Okay, so this trilogy is actually an accident. The three movies – A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (1966), were perceived as a trilogy after the final movie released. The trilogy follows the Man with No Name as he robs, steals, kills, and double-crosses his way through a world of lawlessness and bandits. You will get hooked to the gradual yet interesting character development, glorified with the plot twists. Frequent co-stars Lee Van Cleef and Mario Brega (amongst others) will leave you in splits for sure.

Captain America

Steve Rogers, Captain America, is a very crucial member of Marvel. Even though Chris Evans retired as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame, the previous trilogy was just perfectly crafted. The trilogy includes – Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and Captain America: Civil War (2016). The trilogy starts with Steve as a malnourished yet highly driven person who wants to be a soldier. He gets selected for a lab experiment and ends up becoming Captain America. He then saves a lot of soldiers from captive. Then the story follows Steve saving his best friend Bucky (Winter Soldier) from HYDRA’s captivity, and then finally, his epic battle with the rest of the Avengers. If you are in for serious action and major plot twists, this could be an interesting trilogy for you.

Back To The Future

The trilogy follows a high school slacker Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) as they face the flaws of time travel. This is actual sci-fi stuff right here if you are into this genre. Of course, the movie revolves around them trying to undo some mistakes and events. Robert Zemeckis’ glorious time travel trilogy Back to the Future was a major game-changing success. The trilogy includes – Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future 2 (1989), and Back to the Future 3 (1990). A trilogy that could be first-hand recommended.
