Falcon and Winter Soldier’s Mid-Credit Scene Suggests That SHIELD Still Exists

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 6, “One World, One People” was not an ordinary finale. It easily included every element that was introduced from the beginning. The Flag-Smashers, John Walker, Valentina, Bucky, Sharon, and Sam, everyone got their closure. Well, only according to the series. The MCU will definitely include these characters again in the future after setting a powerful narrative for each of them. The final episode of this action-packed series was a fine mix of drama, storytelling, and powerful moments. Our very own Sam Wilson is the new Captain America, officially.

The show has managed to have a serious impact on the future of the MCU. One thing that the series never lacked was the element of surprise. This includes the return of characters such as Zemo and Sharon. Valentina was seen for the first time and is sure to have a big future in Marvel considering her history in the comics. She probably has ties with the evil organization called the Leviathan, or she could be setting up Thunderbolts with Thaddeus Ross. Both of them will be seen in the upcoming Black Widow movie. But someone has outshined them all. She is Sharon Carter.

She started off her journey in the MCU as a devoted Agent for SHIELD. We first saw her in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She was assigned to pose as a friendly neighbor to Steve Rogers for his protection. But things quickly rammed up in Captain America: Civil War. She was claimed as the enemy of the state for her actions. She stole Captain America’s shield from the U.S. Government for Steve. Since then, she’s been labeled a fugitive. This forced her to settle in Madripoor. Welcome our Power-Broker. Sam had promised her a full pardon from the government if she helped the titular characters in taking down the Flag-Smashers. In the finale, she got the pardon that she had been long waiting for.

There is a moment in the post-credit scene that suggests that the SHIELD is still pretty much active. Sharon reveals her true intentions the moment she steps out of the court. As we all saw, she was seen talking to someone all prepared to sell the government secrets. “We’d like to offer you a full pardon. There may be an opening in your old division,” says the government official.

Normally, this points us to the assumption that she is back to her old CIA position. Her new title as Agent Carter along with the implication that she’s being welcomed “home” further suggests that Sharon will be rejoining S.H.I.E.L.D. This could suggest that the organization that was once taken down in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as it was infiltrated by HYDRA, was low-key active all this while.

Peggy Carter was one of the founders of SHIELD. She was also known as Agent Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger. Hence, Sharon acquiring the same title could suggest that she could be the director of SHIELD in the future of the MCU. This particular aspect can be showcased in the upcoming Captain America 4. The name and the plot are still not decided by the movie will be directed by The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s director and showrunner Malcolm Spellman. This script will be penned by the same alongside Dalon Musson.

Sharon will likely take on a leadership role within the remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain Aerica 4. But this particular stunt might just tarnish everything her Aunt Peggy ever lived for. She believed SHIELD to be an organization that will protect its country and the government till the end. But Sharon is not nice as we think. I mean, the show has already established that.

She is all set to create a majorly chaotic environment and if I believe what’s right, then Sam and Bucky will have a hard time taking her down in the upcoming flick. The only reason for that is – trust. They trust Sharon too much to not realize her true self until it’s too late. She could actually make up for a very promising villain in the future if this road is ever taken.
