Falcon and Winter Soldier: How Many Languages Can Bucky Speak?

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is one of Marvel’s most promising projects. With every episode, it only seems to progress further. It has perfectly introduced many new characters, namely, the Flag-Smashers, and John Walker. The latter was rocking the Captain America shield, but not anymore. The show also reintroduces Zemo. To top it all of, the Power-Broker still remains hidden.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier tells us the story of Sam and Bucky after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Sam finds himself unworthy of the shield. Meanwhile, Bucky tries to accept his past as the Winter Soldier. With all the tension around, the show begins to creep in new threats and the role of the government. As of now, no one can predict what the finale will offer. But it will be safe to think that the viewers are in for a ride. This particular project from Marvel has also become the most-watched show in all of the world!

We know that Bucky was a HYDRA agent who was brainwashed to carry out the organization’s bad deeds. Bucky was more or less like a robot, that awakened only when he was needed, and then got his memories wiped when the task was done. But now, he is on his path of redemption. Spending time in Wakanda, Shuri helped him bring back his consciousness.

Even though he is not controlled by them anymore, he is much more fierce now with the experience and skills taught by HYDRA, and of course, with the super-soldier serum in his body. But this is not the only thing that he was taught by the organization. Speaking in different languages is also a trait that he has. He was deeply embedded in the roots of this evil corporation. He once mentioned about a group of other Hydra-created Winter Soldiers, and that they spoke a whopping 30 languages. However, Bucky wasn’t trained alongside that group, so it’s unclear if he was taught the same number of languages by Hydra.

Let’s date back to some of Marvel films. Based on previous scenes in the MCU, it’s derivative that Bucky can speak and understand Romanian, Russian, German, Japanese, as well as his native English. But that’s not it. Earlier, we broke down Bucky’s timeline in Wakanda. It was seen that Bucky stayed in Wakanda for a good two years. hence, in the recent of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, we see him speaking the African language of Xhosa, almost as fluent as his English in a conversation with Dora Milaje.

In the Marvel comics, Bucky has also been shown to speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin. It is unclear if we will see his counterpart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever speak these above-mentioned languages. It will be no surprise if by the end of two episodes we will see him speaking a range of 30 languages. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is almost at the end of its run. With only one more episode, it will conclude its finale on Disney+. Stream now!
