Avengers: Infinity War – Is Star-Lord Responsible For The Destruction of Half The Universe?

Avengers Infinity War was the most anticipated comic-book movie and it truly lived up to the massive hype and fans’ expectations. The Russo brothers have pulled off a cinematic milestone that will stand the test of time. It has broken the box-office record for highest ever opening weekend collections as it has clocked over $250 million.

The movie has been a decade in the making as MCU officially arrived in the year 2008 with Iron Man and since then all the Marvel movies led us to the most epic showdown that fans have been waiting for – Avengers Assemble vs Thanos. And buoy both sides were relentless and put up a brave fight. In the end, one side won.

The Mad Titan ‘Thanos’ seen in full-blown action as he goes on a quest to collect all six Infinity stones scattered in different places of the universe. With him, there was Black Order comprised of cosmic creatures handpicked by Thanos from the darkest corners of the universe and the army of ‘Outriders’ who are genetically engineered to conquer worlds for their master.

Thanos only had one goal i.e to bring balance to the universe by destroying half the life so that the remaining half could have a better life, given the scarcity of resources. He wanted to assemble all six cosmic singularities in the gauntlet and wipe out half the humanity with the snap of his fingers. He believed universe ought to be grateful for his service as he is the only one with the strongest will to take the hardest decisions.

Thanos saw to it that his plan works. He took it upon himself to make sure there is no one that could stop his rampage. He decided to take matters into his own hands, get his hands dirty. And in doing so, he unleashed absolute havoc upon the good guys. Thanos is the best MCU villain ever and sent a chill down the spine of not just Avengers but the audience too. He wasn’t just big evil monster, instead, he is a supervillain with a purpose.

And one of the Marvel Superheroes became an unwitting ally to the Mad Titan. Believe it or not, a single Marvel Superhero is the reason Infinity War had such a shocking ending. Whether his actions were deliberate or stupid is a debate that will be raging on for quite some time. Here’s what we think about Star-Lord’s role in ensuring that Thanos’ plans actually succeed:

Spoiler Alert: Massive Spoilers for Infinity War. Enter with caution….

Star-Lord is the guy who had a hand in helping Thanos accomplishing his goal. While that wasn’t his original intention, Star-Lord ended up freeing the Mad Titan from the Avengers’ grasp when the heroes had almost succeeded in snatching the Infinity Gauntlet off of Thanos. That’s right folks.

Strange, Spiderman, Black Panther, Drax, Bucky, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Vision and the rest of the half of the universe is dead because Star-Lord chose to be an emotional idiot. Or is he? Is Star-Lord really the stupid, clueless asshole Infinity War made him out to be or is his idiocy the real cog in Doctor Strange’s endgame? We break it down for you?

Why could he be the Worst Superhero ever?

Star-Lord is the reason our heroes are dead. His behavior was troublesome from the very beginning. We would have guessed two movies would have at least led to some character development for him but that is not the case. He was insecure about Thor stealing his thunder aboard the Milano.

When Gamora asked the mammoth task of killing her if the situation demands it, he said no and only agreed when Gamora insisted. On Titan, Quill was the first to openly ridicule Tony Stark’s plans and proposed that he could make a better one although he had the least experience compared to others.

When the fight with Thanos came to pass, Quill tried his best and Spider-man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Drax, Nebula and Mantis along with Quill managed to subdue the Titan long enough for Iron Man and Spidey to grab hold off the Gauntlet. They would have succeeded had Thanos not mentioned that he was the one who killed Gamora for the Soul Stone.

Quill lost his cool big time and attacked Thanos, hitting Mantis and loosening her telepathic control over the mad Titan who escaped right before Spiderman almost had the Gauntlet in his grasp. The result was Thanos defeated the heroes and got hold of the Time Stone which he later used to acquire the Mind Stone to complete his Gauntlet and wipe out half the universe.

Why could he be the best Superhero ever?

Tell me this, a subdued purple freak tells you that he killed one of your own family members. How do you react? Do you just stay still or start freaking out? Quill is half human and it is the human part that counts. What he did was what anybody else would have done. Don’t kid yourself into thinking that you would have stayed put. If you did, you are not human then. What Quill did was not only relatable but it could also have a deeper meaning.

Remember Strange said that there were more than 14 Million different outcomes and they won in only one of them. What if that scenario also included Quill acting like an idiot? In order to make Thanos let his guard down, he must think he won.

Quill acting like a foolish man-child could all be part of Doctor Strange’s plan to defeat the Mad Titan. We don’t know how Quill’s actions set Strange’s plans into motion but if Strange said it was ‘the only way’, Quill just made sure Thanos will soon bite the dust.

Remember the scene where the Avengers win? Quill acting like an idiot could all be part of it. So in short, what Quill did was not stupid. It was all part of the bigger picture. What Quill did does not make him a moron. That was just the humane and Star-Lord thing to do and Doctor Strange was banking on it. Believe it or not, Star-Lord could just be the best and most relatable Superhero Marvel has offered its fans in a long, long time.

The movie is running successfully in theaters. It is directed by Russo brothers aka Joe & Anthony Russo and produced by Kevin Feige & Co. The screenplay is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The cast is truly magnificent as Marvel has brought some of the biggest stars under single roof including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Sebastian Stan (Winter soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Vin Diesel (Groot), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Reiner (Hawkeye), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Tom Holland (Spiderman), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Karen Gillian (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Dave Bautista (Drax), Paul Bettany (Vision), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Mariah Hill).

The official movie synopsis reads:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
