Falcon and Winter Soldier Finale Brought A Forgotten Black Widow Technology Back

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier impressed every Marvel fan by showing the heroic transformation of Sam Wilson into MCU’s new Captain America. The series showed the post-Avengers: Endgame life of Sam and Bucky. It tackled the legacy of the Star-Spangled shield and also wrestled with different societal issues along the way. The series reignited the conversation about the Super Soldier Serum and brought back MCU favorites like Sharon Carter and Baron Zemo.

The Disney+ show is filled with story beats that offer context about the franchise’s past. It also teased future plot points that can prove to be important for MCU’s future. The finale delivered everything. It confirmed that Sharon is actually the Power Broker from Madripoor. Well, a fascinating Easter egg related to Black Widow has emerged from the finale. Among the many forgotten pieces of MCU’s technologies, there’s Black Widow’s Photostatic Veil. Sharon Carter brought it back, and this might possibly hint at her deep connections to the criminal underworld.

Black Widow Easter Egg

We all saw in the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that Sharon Carter entered the States by using a photostatic veil, which is also called a nano mask. She actually disguised herself as a man, using the veil to enter GRC premises in order to help Sam and Bucky in their fight against the Flag Smashers.

The veil was at first introduced in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Natasha Romanoff used it to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters by posing as Council Member Hawley. The mask has also been used several times during the second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The series revealed that the device was created by Doctor Selwyn.

Sharon Carter’s Dark Future in MCU

We all have seen that the interconnectedness of MCU has been the greatest strength of the franchise. Now the Disney+ shows are taking complete advantage of it. The inclusion of the nano mask from the Captain America sequel worked as a clever moment in the finale. This was because it did not feel forced within the context of the narrative. This makes a narrative sense for Sharon to be the character who used the device, considering that she has not been pardoned yet by the government.

The final episode of the Disney+ show proved that Sharon is now a full-blown villain because of her Power Broker title. This development brings trouble for Sam and Bucky. It positions Sharon as the lead antagonist of Captain America 4. It is still a mystery how Sharon ended up with the nano mask. Her connections in Madripoor might have the answer for this. When S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, different intel about the organization was released. There is a chance that SHIELD’s weapons and gadgets also ended up in the black market. Or perhaps, the schematics to recreate such gadgets could have been leaked.

The series showed that the Super Soldier serum can be recreated. It is possible that Sharon may have tasked someone to create a new version of the nano mask. This led to the device’s appearance in the finale. This shows how dangerous Sharon can be. It looks like the mask is just the tip of the iceberg. Now that Sharon is returning to the CIA, she could have access to a number of resources and prototype weapons. This can lead to more dangerous weapons down the line for Captain America, Bucky, and the remaining Avengers.

All the episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are now streaming on Disney+. The miniseries is directed by Kari Skogland. Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell, Erin Kellyman, Danny Ramirez, Georges St-Pierre, Adepero Oduye, Emily VanCamp and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are playing the lead roles.

Here is the official synopsis of Episode 6 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:

“Wearing a new Captain America uniform and flight suit from the Wakandans, Wilson flies to New York to stop the Flag Smashers’ attack with the help of Barnes, Carter, and Walker. Carter accidentally reveals that she is the Power Broker to Batroc and kills him while Wilson attempts to reason with Morgenthau before Carter kills her as well. Wilson convinces the GRC to postpone the forced relocation of displaced people that Morgenthau died fighting for and instead make efforts to help them.

The remaining serum-enhanced Flag Smashers are caught by Barnes and Walker and sent to the Raft, but they are killed by Zemo’s butler en route. De Fontaine gives Walker a new uniform and codename, U.S. Agent. Barnes makes amends with everyone he hurt or enabled as the Winter Soldier while Wilson has a memorial dedicated to Bradley added to the Captain America museum exhibit. In a mid-credits scene, after receiving a full pardon, Carter rejoins the CIA and intends to use this access to sell government secrets and resources.”
