The latest project of Marvel Studios has been gathering a lot of attention from the paparazzi. The project will be the 4th sequel in the Thor storyline and has been named Thor: Love and Thunder. The reigns of the project have been handed over to Taika Waititi, whose direction was acclaimed and appreciated by a majority of Marvel fans in Thor: Ragnarök. The project will witness the return of Thor’s love from the Midgard realm, Jane Foster. Also, if sources are to be believed she might also don a superhero identity in the movie, which promises further expansion of the Thor arc. The recent development on the sets of Thor: Love and Thunder witnessed the arrival of Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, and Sam Neil, for most probably another parody of the past events. But, the latest addition to this list was the arrival of Melissa McCarthy who was witnessed playing the character of Hela.
The new storyline of Thor: Love and Thunder has not even been partly unearthed as of now. But back in 2019, during the Comic-con in San Diego. We were introduced on stage with Natalie Portman and although for many a weird signal from Taika Waititi seemed like a vague gesture. But, the fans at comic-con saw Waititi go down on one knee and hand over a Mjolnir prop to Natalie as she walked on Stage to join Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. But this gesture was also hinted at by several hardcore marvel fans as the return of Jane Foster on the sets of Thor: Love and Thunder and possibly take up the mantle of Thor, similar to what unfolded in the comics as the She Thor.
Now if one thinks about it and watches that clipping again, we would see Waititi down on one knee and while Natalie did hold on to the hammer, she seemed a little hesitant to do so. Mostly because she knew the plot of the movie and did not want to give it away. But now this plot has been confirmed to a large extent with her return to the sets of the Thor: Love and Thunder.
In the Marvel studious project of Thor: Love and Thunder my witness, Jane Foster takes up the mantle of Thor. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) already has the Stormbreaker and has been shown wielding it with great proficiency. One could debate about this aspect, but watching Thor wields the Stormbreaker and slices through the beam fired by all the six infinity stones, which were wielded by Thanos using the infinity gauntlet, shows the kind of power that Stormbreaker possesses.
The Stormbreaker unlike Mjolnir is also able to summon the Bifrost on command by Thor, without the need for Heimdall’s assistance. The Stormbreaker is the next-gen level of a weapon forged by Eitri, the greatest blacksmiths in the Nidavellir realm. Now with Thor (Chris) already wielding the Stormbreaker, there is no one left to wield the Mjolnir.
Now many fans would behest the logic that Mjolnir was destroyed by Hela. But they forget that in Avengers: Endgame, using the quantum tunnel Thor and Rocket travel back in time to Asgard to retrieve the reality stone from Jane Foster, which was retconned with ‘Thor 2’ events.
It is then when Thor finds and seeks advice from his stepmother Frigga and gets the strength to get back up and that is when he summons the Mjolnir which for some reason is not in possession of the Thor, in that time dimension. But, none less Thor returns to the current reality with the Mjolnir and already possesses the Stormbreaker. Now since Captain America is no longer a part of the avengers, Mjolnir is in need of someone worthy enough to wield it. The last known compatriots who could have wielded the Mjolnir have either retired, Steve Rogers, or have been killed by Thanos, Vision. So thus, this new responsibility falls at the hands of a new wielder and most probably someone worthy enough to wield the hammer. Jane Foster seems to be a perfect fit and with the possible shots being captured from the sets of Thor: Love and Thunder It may just be the case.
The upcoming production from Marvel Studios is the most anticipated movie of the coming year and has a lot of fans, who are unable to wait for its release on the big silver screen.
Thor: Love and Thunder will for certain bring in additional characters in the movie and the MCU storyline. Another few characters which might make a comeback into the MCU are Thunderstrike and Beta Ray Bill. But that is a topic for another article.
