The filming on the brand new sequel to Thor: Ragnarok, and the fourth installment for the Thor franchise began working earlier this month. The film will take place in Marvel Studios’ Phase Four, which is also set to feature many upcoming films including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While not much is known about the plot of Thor: Love and Thunder, several other characters from the MCU have been confirmed for the film, including Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Jaimie Alexander’s Sif, and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord/Peter Quill.
Among the cast of the film will be Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie who will be settling into her role as the leader of New Asgard in the film. As Thompson teased in a recent interview with The Playlist, there’s a chance that the journey of Love and Thunder could bring Valkyrie face-to-face with some other characters from the wider MCU. Tessa Thompson said, “Yeah. I can tease that she’s definitely King of New Asgard when we find her,” Thompson revealed. “And as was the case in the last four, I would say that she’s a part of an adventure that involved Thor, in the sense that it’s called Thor: Love and Thunder. And I’d say there’s some cool stuff going on. We have some new characters; we have some folks potentially from other pockets of the MCU. And then we have some folks, maybe, that we’ve seen before. ”Now, what really excites the fan that it is already confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy will slide into the film, particularly with Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord making a definite appearance. Beyond that, it is surely interesting to notice what Tessa Thompson means by “other pockets of the MCU”, but it’s a treat for those who want to see Valkyrie interact more with Caption Marvel, played by Brie Larson.
According to Crazy Days & Nights, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel will appear in the Thorquel. The outlet notes she’s been filming in secret, and while her potential role in the film remains unclear, Captain Marvel and Thor’s shared screentime was one of the many talked-about aspects of Avengers: Endgame. Should this rumor come to pass, Larson’s Captain Marvel would join the likes of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista’s Drax, and Karen Gillan’s Nebula, along with the returning Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.
Joining Thompson in Thor: Love and Thunder are Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who will become The Mighty Thor in the film. I’m just looking super forward to seeing a woman wield the hammer,” Thompson previously said during an appearance at ACE Comic-Con. “Natalie’s already getting buff and I’m going to teach her my trick about grunting. Let me text her now about that, actually. [laughs] I’m really looking forward to the next phase, I think it’s going to be an exciting one.”
Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillen as Nebula, and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. The film arrives in theaters on May 6, 2022.
