Fast And Furious 9 – Here’s Why Only Dom Will Go to Space

Fast and Furious 9 Dom Will Go to Space:

The fans have always joked about the fact that the Fast franchise will soon be headed to space. The basis for this joke actually comes from the pace that the franchise has been moving forward with. Apparently, there’s nowhere else left to go. And now, it has been confirmed that not only is the franchise going to space, but they always planned to do it. So apparently, the joke’s on us, fans!

After Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) confirmed that Fast 9 is going to space. In a Zoom interview with Sirius XM’s “The Jess Cagle Show,” host Jess Cagle asked Rodriguez about Space and she said:

“Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man. When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that…Oh, well, no, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not lucky enough to hit space, but we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one. Thanks to…Justin Lin. We were able to, to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that that, that shows through in the final product.”

Rodriguez clearly states that her character isn’t the one that’s going to space. So it won’t be like Michael Bay’s Armageddon movie where a bunch of oil rig drillers were recruited to go to space. The whole Fast family probably won’t be hitting Space. So we shouldn’t expect them to be driving race cars on the moon or something. Even with its most unrealistic approach, the Fastchise tries to stay as realistic as it can. We saw a high-speed chase sequence in last year’s Brad Pitt starrer, Ad Astra. That film was set in a future where Earth has managed to build colonies on the moon & mars. So, its high-speed chase sequence on the moon was believable. But it won’t be believable in Fast & Furious 9. Yes, these films have brought some crazy pieces of technology in the past, but riding cars on the moon is a little too far fetched even for this franchise. Who knows, it may be a possibility in Fast 10 (Part 1 or Part 2), but not right now.

The first trailer for Fast & Furious 9 had no indications for space travels apart from maybe one little setup. It was a 3.5-minute-long trailer. Usually, trailers with such lengths pack footage from all three acts of the film. This trailer probably showed us the bits that will mostly be a part of Act I & Act II. Since there was nothing in the trailer about Space, we have to believe that the “Space bit” will be a part of the third Act of the film, and it won’t be very long.

Since Rodriguez said that her character won’t go to space, we believe that not the entire family, but only Dom will be the one strapping up to hit the cosmos. The theory is that Cipher being the world-class hacker that she is, will somehow hijack a weaponized satellite and Jakob will be involved in it as well. Maybe the satellite would need a manual fix, or maybe Dom will try to save his brother. And because it is Cipher & Jakob who are the ones trying to use the weapon, Dom will take the responsibility to stop them.

For the matter of how he will end up in space, maybe the Pontiac Fiero could come into play. Earl (Jason Tobin) and Sean (Lucas Black) are the ones who strap a rocket engine to the car and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) takes it for a spin. Maybe this Pontiac Fiero is a prototype, and Dom will use a similar vehicle that will be involved with his space travels towards the end of the film. Let’s wait and see how Space will be brought into play.

Fast & Furious 9 arrives on April 2, 2021.
