The Suicide Squad Ending Revealed:
Okay, don’t go trashing us in the comments section before you read. This is no plot leak and neither is it a Sony movie trailer where the final shot of the movie is used as a money shot in the trailer. We’ve come across hints that might have revealed what could actually happen towards the end of James Gunn’s upcoming DC movie. The Suicide Squad is surely the most exciting DC movie coming out in 2021 (Sorry Matt Reeves). And James Gunn is precisely the main reason why this film is so exciting.
Last year in September, Gunn revealed his 24 people cast for the movie. And his revelation came with a subtle message, “Don’t get too attached.” This in itself was a tease for the fact that a lot of characters would end up dying in the movie. And now, we’ve got the poster of the film that pushes this notion of character deaths even further.
On his birthday, James Gunn revealed the new poster(s) of The Suicide Squad right after the trailer for the DC FanDome event. You may have noticed that this poster has the trademark bullet holes on it. Comic readers would’ve understood how the bullet holes are a direct nod to the Suicide Squad logo from the books. But, what you might have missed out on is that this logo also gives a nod to the 1967 war movie, “The Dirty Dozen.”
If you look at the logo here, this film was the first one to have a logo peppered by holes in the title. Then, The A-Team & The Suicide Squad followed the pattern later on. Back when the first Suicide Squad movie was going to hit theatres, director David Ayer told fans that they should expect “the Dirty Dozen with supervillains.” And now, James Gunn seems to be hinting towards that movie quite literally with The Suicide Squad logo and with what he wrote while revealing the cast.
Spoiler for The Dirty Dozen follows.
Those who haven’t watched The Dirty Dozen, I’m sorry to spoil the film for you if you had any intentions to watch it. I’m not giving any major plot spoilers, but yes, I’m telling you that most of “The Dirty Dozen” die in the line of duty towards the end of the film. I had to reveal this because this is the plot element that might inspire James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
In a cast that includes 24 actors, it is obvious that everyone won’t get the spotlight. After coming across a couple of set photos that showed us two different groups of the Suicide Squad, we came up with a fitting theory that could explain how Gunn plans to incorporate so many characters. Since The Suicide Squad takes place 5 years after the first film, we reckon that the members of Task Force X would have changed over time. So, the 5 people you see above (Nathan Fillion’s Blackguard, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, Mayling Ng’s Mongal, Flula Borg’s Javelin & Pete Davidson’s Savant), and a few others like Weasel (Sean Gunn) & Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) might constitute the new Task Force X at the beginning of the film. Captain Boomerang & Rick Flagg will be the only original members in this team.
The theory is that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) would send this new team on a mission. As it is common with any Suicide Squad task, things will go sideways. By sideways, I mean that almost all the members of this new team might die. Captain Boomerang & Rick Flagg might survive & be held captive by the mystery villain of this film (because honestly, they deserve more than being killed off right in the beginning). So, it is after the failure of this team that Waller will assemble a new one, offering deals to the likes of Peacemaker (John Cena), Vigilante (Idris Elba) and others like Polkadotman (David Dastmalchian), Ratcatcher (Daniela Melchior) & King Shark (Steve Agee).
She’d send this new team to rescue the Squad members like Boomerang & Flagg that might have been held captive, and complete the mission that the first Squad was supposed to. Oh yes, one more thing, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) will also be a part of this new team that Waller will put up.
As we’ve presented a couple hints as “character death evidence” in the first half of the article, we reckon that a few members of this new Suicide Squad (the one with Elba & Cena) might die towards the ending. The Suicide Squad is basically a team of soldiers who are expendable for the government. So, it’d be okay for many of them to die throughout the film.
Still, it is obvious that not every member of this new team will be killed off. Gunn will surely preserve some of them so they could continue the franchise when he returns to direct the third Suicide Squad movie. At least the characters of Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Margot Robbie & Jai Courtney are the unkillable ones according to us. It would be a shame if these actors do not appear in the third iteration of The Suicide Squad (along with some others). They should carry the franchise forward even if the characters of the other cast members are killed off. Although if they do make it to Suicide Squad 3, then it’d be interesting to see the team combination since Will Smith’s Deadshot is bound to return as well. The team will then comprise of 5 Alphas and one Jai Courtney.
We’re extremely excited for the DC FanDome event on August 22 as James Gunn has promised to give us our first glimpse (maybe some footage) of The Suicide Squad. The movie arrives next year on August 6. Let’s see who survives and who will be among the many characters that will end up dying.
