The first trailer of Zack Snyder’s Justice League gave us a glimpse at how the movie could’ve been before getting Whedonized. The trailer showed us the version of Superman which we were promised. Along with that, it might’ve also teased a hero that completes the Justice League. And the tagline – “Unite the Seven” which the film hinged on in its initial days. The hero we are talking about here is J’onn J’onzz aka Martian Manhunter.
The trailer (above) gave us the first live-action look at the black suit Superman along with some extra scenes featuring the hero. However, there’s a moment in it that teases Martian Manhunter in the movie. In the trailer, when Lois Lane visits Martha Kent to check up on her and she embraces her. This moment was completely altered in the 2017 movie. The Joss Whedon’s JL showed us Martha visiting Lois Lane at the Daily Planet office. Now comes the part where that moment hints at J’onn J’onzz. Zack Snyder previously mentioned that he wanted to use this very moment to bring in MM.
Last year, Zack Snyder shared storyboards that indicate when Martha left Lois’ apartment, she’d turn into the MM and then into General Swanwick, played by Harry Lennix in MoS and BvS. Snyder even said that he’d love to reshoot these scenes as the rewrites of the film resulted in their loss. And if he uses the same way to introduce the hero, that’d definitely work since Swanwick had a connection with Ms. Lane and he even likes her determination to find the truth. Moreover, he was also very interested in Superman, so that explains why he’d keep close tabs on the hero and his love interest. And that’s why J’onn J’onzz would check in on her using the disguise of Martha to extract all the information and secrets after the events of BvS.
This would also make General Swanwick a bigger character in the DCEU who’d act as a bridge between the heroes and the government just like Nick Fury in the MCU. Martian Manhunter is one of the original and most important members of the team. And after getting so many rumors about his arrival in the DCEU, fans believed that at some point they might get to see him as well. But that didn’t happen in the version of Justice League that we saw in 2017.
Harry Lennix has previously said that he’d love to come back for reshoots. And since Zack Snyder has finally got the chance to show his original vision of the movie, then what’s stopping him? This could be the perfect setup for the missing hero from the league. Swanwick was already a protector of the planet, so it’d be okay to let him become what he was destined to be.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will arrive on HBO Max next year and stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
We hope to see ‘Unite The Seven’ becoming a reality. What do you think about this?
