Why Marvel Couldn’t Have Killed Any Original Avenger in Infinity War

In many ways, Avengers: Endgame is its own movie. But we’d be lying to ourselves if we’d say that it wasn’t a direct sequel to Infinity War. While Endgame was actually the payoff to almost all MCU movies that came before, it was mostly a pay-off for all the major setups in Avengers: Infinity War. The ending of the Infinity War was something that no one expected. Never did a villain really win against the Avengers. Thanos didn’t just wipe the floor with the Avengers, but he actually managed to collect all 6 Infinity Stones and snap half of universal life out of existence. But co-incidentally, none of the original Avengers died.

Original Avenger in Infinity War

Sure, it wasn’t a coincidence for everyone outside the MCU, as the Russos and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely put a lot of brains into deciding who dies, and who doesn’t. And obviously, they just couldn’t have killed anyone of the original 6 members. They were extremely important for the story of Avengers: Endgame.

Why Didn't Any Original Avenger in Infinity War?

Hawkeye wasn’t a part of the Infinity War. Just imagine if he would’ve died with Thanos’ snap. It would’ve been so unfair and total injustice for his character. The same goes for Black Widow, Captain America or any other OG Avenger. Black Widow & Cap specifically didn’t get to do a whole lot in Infinity War. If they would’ve been killed off, then a lot of fans would’ve been angry. Even the Hulk didn’t get much to do in Infinity War, and like Black Widow, he had one important task in Endgame. the finale event just wouldn’t have been possible without them.

Everyone of the OG 6 Avengers were given strong story arcs in Avengers: Endgame. it was going to be the final time that the OG 6 would’ve assembled for the time heist and the final fight. None of them could’ve been kept out of the story because Endgame was their swan song. The Russos could’ve afforded to kill off one or more of the OG 6 Avengers if there was another Avengers film left where all 6 of them would’ve appeared. It would’ve been just like they kept Hawkeye out of Infinity War. But it just wasn’t possible for Endgame. That’s why only those characters disintegrated who either didn’t have much to do in Infinity War or had a bigger & longer future in the MCU. The ones who didn’t had all survived.

Why Didn't Any Original Avenger in Infinity War?

Just imagine if one of the OG 6 would’ve died. Without Thor’s uniqueness in Endgame, the film wouldn’t have been the same. Thanos wouldn’t have felt too big of a threat. Without Widow & Hawkeye, the Avengers couldn’t have got the soul stone. Without the Hulk, The Avengers would’ve lost not two, but 3 major heroes because no one else could’ve really survived the second snap. And, the closure of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark was really important for this film. So more than anyone else, Thanos couldn’t have wiped them out of existence.
