The Synopsis for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is as Confusing as the Trailer

Even after seeing two trailers which weren’t devoid of movie footage, the plot for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is still something that people have not been able to grasp. There are a couple of things that Nolan has given away as we saw a whole lot of time reversal, or “Inversion” happen during the two trailers. But apart from that, we’re sure that there are a bunch of twists that will come along with this movie. Here, check out the second trailer of the movie again if you did not watch it:

This trailer first premiered on Fortnite. Then it made its way onto the internet. What’s crazy about the plot of this movie is that even the actors have not been able to fully understand it. The lead actor, John David Washington is one of the actors who didn’t fully understand the film while he was a part of the production. Here’s what he said about the doubts he had during the production:

“Every day I had questions for him. But he was very gracious, and he answered them very calmly and patiently. It was important that the actors could track the story correctly so we could tell it the best way we could, and he was very patient with us. I say that very politely [laughs].”

Well, it is only Christopher Nolan who could bring in such a heavy Sci-fi thriller film, and then market it by not telling people about it. Over the last 2 decades, Nolan has built such a massive reputation and fan base that his fans are willing to watch any film that he works on. And Tenet seems to be the most ambitious project that Nolan has taken on.

WB spent a big budget (around $200 Million) upon the production of this movie as there are massive practical action sequences, and the filming took place in 7 major countries. Moreover, there’s a massive cast involved as well. To give us a bit more upon Tenet, the synopsis of the film has been revealed:

“Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.”

 Christopher Nolan’s Tenet Synopsis

This Synopsis makes two things clear, first – there is no Time Travel involved as we’d be seeing the protagonist (John David Washington) reversing time of the events that just took place, and second – the time-bending is important to save the destruction of the world, or as the trailer suggested – to prevent World War III.

 Christopher Nolan’s Tenet Synopsis

The film has It has been described as a massive espionage story. Upon reading the synopsis & watching the trailers, we could decipher that by using a mysterious technology, certain characters have the ability to reverse the immediate time. Although, how time inversion has been made possible is not clear yet. It could be through the Green Glove that Washington is seen wearing. Washington reverses time twice. First he catches an object, then he is seen wearing it again when he fires the gun (or rather catches the bullets back in it.) But in many other scenes, Washington isn’t seen wearing the glove, and time inversion still happens. So the glove is either edited out of the rest of the trailer, or it is as insignificant as our brains for analyzing what’s really happening with Tenet.

Washington seems to be the one chosen (like NEO from The Matrix) as he has passed a test. Now, he & Robert Pattinson have been tasked to possibly stop World War III. Kenneth Branagh’s character (the supposed antagonist) also seems to have the ability to invert time. One possible theory that we have been able to make out could explain a bit of the plot. Potential Spoilers for Tenet could follow.

Various instances in the trailer have made it seem like Pattinson & Washington are moving back in time to investigate. It is happening while the rest of the world around them moves forward in time. They seem to be investigating the cause of an effect that has already taken place. Perhaps World War III has already happened, and the Agents of Tenet seem to be determining the cause of it to stop it from ever happening. Sequences like the ones where a car reverse flips, or when Washington & Pattinson investigate bullets do point at this analysis.

 Christopher Nolan’s Tenet Synopsis

Like in Christopher Nolan’s Memento, where the movie starts from the end and makes its way to the beginning, Tenet could be doing a bit of that with its literal time reversal. In the beginning of the trailer, Washington is welcomed into the afterlife. Perhaps Tenet is a literal afterlife & John David Washington has actually died in the beginning of the film, as one shot of the film seems to hint towards that. Then from his afterlife, he gets the ability to go back in time and stop the cause of WW3. This theory is wild, but so is this film!

New Christopher Nolan Movie Tenet Trailer

Christopher Nolan & WB are hell-bent upon releasing this movie in the theatres. Here’s what IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond had to say about Tenet’s release:

“Chris really would like to be coming out with the film that opens theaters. I don’t know anyone in America who is pushing harder to get the theatres reopened and to get his movie released than Chris Nolan.”

Tenet possibly arrives on July 17, if not later.
