The Movie industry has always turned towards real-life events when looking for some inspiration. These stories are full of excitement and intensity and though the makers add some extra flair to the story, the core remains intact. These movies are full of motivation as they prove that life is just like a movie and it is full of possibilities.
#10: The Conjuring (2013)
Horror movies become a whole lot scarier when they are based on events that actually transpired. The Conjuring is based on the real-life exploits of Ed and Lorraine Warren, who investigated paranormal activities. Though the movie sensationalized a few aspects, it still actually happened, at least according to the couple. No one can really dispute their claims until the truth comes out.
#9: Apollo 13 (1995)
Apollo 13 was the third moon-landing mission conducted by NASA and over the years we have heard about the story a lot of times. But Tom Hanks’ movie is the defining movie for this event. The movie did take a few liberties for dramatization but overall it is a very accurate depiction of the entire mission.
#8: Moneyball (2011)
Moneyball is an awesome movie that made both mathematics and Baseball interesting, a feat that seemed impossible. It is the story of how Billy Beane and Peter Brand played by Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill respectively, reinvented an entire sport. It is one of the best sports movies of all time even though it hardly features any sports scenes.
#7: Zodiac (2007)
The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who operated during the 1960s – 1970s and claimed that he killed 37 people. The movie is based on the killer but it is not what you expect it to be. The movie focuses more on the investigation rather than the killings, and trust us, that is not as boring as it sounds. It is full of intense moments and has more tension than you can handle.
#6: The Imitation Game (2014)
The Imitation Game is based on the Genius mathematician and codebreaker Alan Turing. It shows how Turing invented the machine that broke the German Enigma Code. Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of Turing was to the point and the movie was compelling from the very start. It managed to re-introduce the world with a legend who deserves a lot more recognition.
#5: Catch Me If You Can (2002)
Catch Me If You Can shows the incredible story of the con-man Frank Abagnale. His story has so many memorable incidents that it almost seems made-up. Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing as Frank and his chemistry with Tom Hanks’ character was nothing short of amazing. It is really hard to believe that this movie is based on real-life events.
#4: Into the Wild (2007)
Based on the true story of Christopher Johnson McCandless, Into the Wild is an emotional movie that will take you on a spiritual journey. The movie will take you on one hell of an adventure. It is a slow-paced movie but you won’t be bored. It is thought-provoking and it will force you to introspect.
#3: Ford V Ferrari (2019)
Christian Bale and Matt Damon give their absolute best in this movie, which tells the story of the iconic rivalry between Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s. You’ll find this movie fantastic even if you don’t have any knowledge or interest in cars and racing. It will pump you with adrenaline and it is a great movie that honors the legends of the racing industry.
#2: The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar-worthy performance in this movie makes it one of the most interesting movies of all time. The movie is based on Jordan Belfort’s life, a stockbroker who defrauded several people to make millions. The movie is full of energetic characters and it is unconventionally funny.
#1: Goodfellas (1990)
Goodfellas is Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece that is based on the true story of the mobster Henry Hill and his involvement with the mafia. It is regarded as one of the best movies of all time, and a lot of credit for that goes to the surreal acting performances by Robert DeNiro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci.
